Haven't read the article, but if the people are using voting in a referendum to end democracy, it is a rather strange situation.

A democratic process to end democracy. Does this have a precedent?

It isn't to end democracy per say.But to give Erodgan power till 2029 and change parliamentary system into presidential type .

That too the referendum is happening when currently Turkey is an under a state of emergency (It was declared after the attempted coup)

As for precedence

Turkey was never truly secular as it proclaimed to be. Islamic majority with 99% Muslims. No room for any minorities. All Islamic countries follow the same template. Nothing different here.

Turkey was a 'forced secular' nation. i.e., people were islamists at home, but secular outside, for the fear that the secular military + police will screw with them if they displayed their islamism. Turkey shed its secular veneer once Erdogan started to purge its military and police of the secular elements.

They should be chucked out of EU. Turkxit!

Turkey has been trying to get EU membership for decades but for various reasons the process was never formally started. No chance of it happening now under an Islamist dictatorship. Turkey has regressed alarmingly from the foundations laid by Ataturk. Its on the way to becoming another Middle Eastern ghetto.

EU itself maybe history if Le pen wins in France, the world is slowly crumbling and its every country and itself.ultimately all blame should go to all right wing fanatics who voted for lunatics and despots around the world because they feared the imaginary bogeyman and lost jobs which were never coming back due to automation.without strong unions like the EU the bullies of the world like China,Russia will start to gobble up neighbors and there will be nobody to stop them.you think the Chinese will not go after the northeast states and Kashmir?
