BCCI rejects Shashank Manohar's offer of additional $ 100 million

Recommended Posts

NEW DELHI: The revenue model feud between the ICC and the BCCI continued today with the Indian cricket body outrightly rejecting the world body's offer of an additional USD 100 million in the proposed format.

"Yes, ICC chairman Shashank Manohar gave us an offer of an additional USD 100 million in the new financial model. In fact, he gave us a deadline to get back to him. From our end, we won't get back to him as we don't even consider it an offer," a senior BCCI source present in Dubai, told PTI today.

Asked why the offer is not even being considered, the official blamed it on the trust deficit between Manohar and the BCCI.

"The offer came from Manohar. He is the chairman but ICC is a members' body and the chairman doesn't decide who gets what share of the pie. It's the members who decide. We are still working on the formula with all nations. They are receptive. Mr Manohar doesn't decide what should be BCCI's share," the official added.

The BCCI has been at loggerheads with the ICC on the proposed revenue model which considerably cuts down India's share.

In the existing revenue distribution model, BCCI gets USD 579 million from the ICC.

If Manohar's proposal is passed by the ICC, then BCCI's share comes down drastically to USD 290 million which even the Committee of Administrators (COA) had found unacceptable.

In fact, Vikram Limaye, after attending the last ICC Board Meeting, had objected to the model terming it as something based on good faith and equity.

When asked what will be the BCCI's stand on the issue, the official explained how they plan to work it out.

"Let us take the example that BCCI were being paid Rs 500 and others are being paid Rs 100. Now these member nations have been promised Rs 175 Or let's say Rs 200. What Mr Manohar is trying do is to reduce BCCI's share to Rs 300 in order to increase their share," he said.

Asked what's the solution, he said, "We are assuring the member nations that even if our share remains Rs 500, we promise to create a model to increase their share to Rs 200. But please have faith that we can propose a revenue generation model."

The BCCI is also not announcing the squad for Champions Trophy today, which is the ICC deadline.

However, the ICC constitution allows countries to name their squads post the deadline under certain circumstances.

With atleast 14 of the 15 members of the Indian team more or less known, the Indian officials are in no tearing hurry.

"Tell me one thing, if we name the squad, say for example on May 5, will ICC bar us from participation. We have a settled squad and naming it is a mere formality," he concluded

Damn looks like BCCI is ready for a full fledged fight and going full throttle.

I want BCCI to bring ICC to its knees. If that means we are missing CT, so be it. We have already won the darn thing twice and are defending champs. Nothing more to prove from our side in this tourney. But blatant injustice and daylight robbery we won't tolerate. This isn't the 70s  where Imperial Cricket Council headed by goras would bully us all the time. Now we are the masters of the game, we generate 80% of the revenue, time we fought for what is rightfully ours.

Great. Now that the SC situation is over BCCI is back to what they should do.

This reminded me of a hindi proverb.

"Bakre ki amma kab tak khair manayegi" :giggle:

More than ICC , it's Manohar that seem to be the biggest target of BCCI's anger.

We have never been short of traitors and sellouts. If you read our medieval history you will see that there were people like Manohar who always ensured our permanent servitude to invaders.

Manohar is just the sell-out front-man for this.   Its ECB and CA that are behind these changes.  The $100 mil offer is nothing - part of the original strategy - they knew that BCCI wasn't going to just accept a cut from 570 to 290 million, That's almost a 50% cut by the way, while CA gets a nominal 4% cut, and the ECB gets the ICC to pay for shiny new headquarters in a building in London.   Which apparently have nothing to do with the "administrative costs" that the ICC has decided to jack up in this new revenue model.   This is a political war inside the ICC meeting room, and the BCCI is already crippled due to the internal chaos inflicted by the Lodha Commission.

Good on BCCI for rejecting the low ball offer! India generates the majority of global cricketing revenue and deserves its fair share and not a pittance which ECB and CA have come up with. Manohar is just a front man and it's ECB and CA pulling the strings behind the scenes.

This episode has proved one thing for sure... there's nobody you can trust to care about your best interests. ECB, CA and others may act that way but given an opportunity they will try their best to back-stab you. To me CT is not more important than pushing back at India/BCCI being made an "also ran" at ICC. Can't wait for someone like Srini to be at the helm of ICC or BCCI so he can kick everyone in their proper spot.

Isn't Shashank Manohar the same guy who rolled out a green top at Nagpur against Aussies in 2004 coz Maharshtra association was having a feud with Dalmiya? IIRC Manohar was the one heading Maharashtra association and they were p*ssed coz Dalmiya beat out Sharad Pawar as the BCCI head and Manohar made sure Nagpur had a green wkt coz Ganguly (who was close to Dalmiya) was heading the indian team at the time.

If he's the same guy I'm not surprised the way he's behaving and undermining India and BCCI. If the guy could cost India a series (the only one we have lost to Aussies since 60s!) for petty revenge, the guy can do anything.

Yes he is the guy that rolled out a greentop in Nagpur, 2004 to hand over the series to Aussies. A traitor just like his master, Sharad Pawar.

That phucking piece of shyte! How can he ever hold a BCCI post after that incident and how could he represent BCCI at the ICC??? A$$holes like these should be barred from holding any important office. The guy cost us the Aus series and Aussies would've been without a win in India since 60s. this guy cost us that record for petty politics and is doing it again :wall:

Propaganda.   Why does CA's share stay the same, and ECB's share go up in the new scheme?   On paper the ECB supposedly loses a few million dollars - but that's because they exclude the revenuve ECB gets from hosting champions trophy and the ODI world cup in 2019.   So actually ECB and CA are getting same or more money as under the big 3.  They don't want to give that up, but want India to give up 50%.   And attempting to spin India's refusal as taking money from Ireland and Afghanistan.  Shame on the media for not reporting the facts correctly.
