BCCI DESTROYED BY CoA:SOUTH AFRICANS LEAVE IPL AS CSA DOESN’T RELAX DEADLINE

The South African players have left the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked the Cricket South Africa (CSA) to extend their stay till at least May 15 (by when the league stage would be over) but the CSA stuck to its original deadline of May 7.

The CSA’s refusal to pay heed to the BCCI request comes at a time when the Indian board’s influence at the international level is at an all-time low. As is well known, the BCCI’s word did not prevail in the International Cricket Council (ICC) fora where it was outvoted 1-9 and recently Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sent a legal notice to the BCCI.

There were 10 South Africans in the IPL 10 -- Chris Morris (DD), Kagiso Rabada (DD), Hashim Amla (KXIP), David Miller (KXIP), Faf du Plessis (RPS), Imran Tahir (RPS), AB de Villiers (RCB) and Tabraiz Shamsi (RCB) -- and among the sides, Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) would, perhaps, be the worst affected by the South Africans’ exit. Tahir was Pune’s best bowler and his absence could be badly felt by the Supergiants, who would feel further pinch when Ben Stokes, the team’s other key player, would have to leave after May 14.

There was apparently requests from a few teams, including Mumbai Indians, to allow the English players to play the play-offs but the English media reported that Andrew Strauss, the director of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), declined permission.

Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils too will miss the South Africans. Amla was Mohali side’s batting mainstay and their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs could take a jolt just as Delhi’s, whose key players – Morris and Rabada – have left. AB de Villiers has always been a top draw in the IPL but with Royal Challengers Bangalore out of reckoning, there won’s be much damage to the Bangalore side.

So, the play-offs, which start on May 16, will be without the South Africans and the English players but the Australians, Kiwis, West Indians and the Afghans will be available till the end of the league. The final will be played on May 21 in Hyderabad.

This is what happens when you appear weak and dont retaliate. This is what the CoA and their negotiation attitude and weakness has brought us.

Don't think the two have any relation already. Yes COA sucks but to say south africans would have increased the deadline had we been powerhouse is wrong and just bullocks.

This is like trying to make ourself happy by lying to ourselves.

We were powerhouse last year and in past 10years of IPL also when players left early from IPL only to prepare for series like Ashes even though their respective series did not even clash with IPl. Yes, players from every country left to prepare or to join their teams.

So stop exaggerating and move on. They are two different things. This now just about BCCi and COA.

Fix the title please.

Tahir is the only player they will miss.

MM just likes to exaggerate. I know he is right about BCCI most times but at times he goes overboard like here mixing two things in order to prove how not being superpower is hurting us. His examples are ridiculous. Should stick to earlier threads.

Tics just go through the last 9 IPLs and how many times have boards extended their deadlines for IPL.

This is only the start. These Nehruvian era Bureaucrats and historians have for decades ruined Indias foreign policy. Now they are ruining Indian cricket.Projection of power is essential for people to take you seriously. Why will ICC negotiate will India? What cards do you have?NONE.Because you  are afraid to bring your biggest weapon on the stage.

How long before other boards start doing this?

Not many times. Also look at how many times key players have gone at the crucial stage of IPl.

Fact is BCCi whether superpower or not, can't control or win request of overseas players extendrd stay in India for IPl.

If it was that easy then England would have allowed its players too in the past to IPL.

Like I said, you are thinking too much. Give it a rest.

Deadlines have been extended many times and by most boards.Haroon Lorgat hates bcci. You need to read about it.

I don't care who hates BCCi or not. Most people hate BCCI and not just Haroon Lorgat.

Point is that you are wrong and exaggerating about how being superpower would have let us keep overseas player in India for IPL for longer duration.

I have seen players leaving before playoffs and month before IPL end, Due to national duty.

1st warm-up match starts on 26th May, These players needs to go home for their family and start preparing for CT17. Give it a rest.

Our players will exhausted for CT17 due to IPL.

Their players their decision.Whats the fuss ?

Are we seriously complaining that CSA is prioritising winning CT instead of IPL.

Champions Trophy is an one off important event obviously.Quite rightly too

An official privy to the discussions between the BCCI and CSA said that it was a one-off situation which could not be avoided. South Africa's tour of England will begin with two practice matches followed by the three-ODI series scheduled between May 24 and 29. The three T20Is and the four Tests will be played after the Champions Trophy. The official said that CSA is keen on getting the best possible preparation for the Champions Trophy, given the team's record in ICC tournaments, and had thus sought an early release of its main players from the IPL.

BCCI informed the respective teams way back in April itself about this.

Just an one off decision.Nothing to with Powerhouse or ICC or anything that happened in Dubai.

Saffer players have played in IPL for days before test series.CSA has extended player availibility in past on bcci requests. This time also bcci requested and it was rejected due to well known reasons.

In couple of years other boards will demand release of Indian players for their own T20 leagues if they allow their players in IPL.CSA has already hinted at that. This is just the start of arm twisting.
