Notable Indian talent that has been wasted in IPL 2017

Every season, there are always some young talented prospects wasted on the bench of their respective franchises. According to many of us posters on this forum, we believe the biggest talent that has been wasted this season is Kulwant Khejroliya from Mumbai Indians! A lot of us were very excited when he got bought in the auction by MI because we thought that we could finally witness another fast bowling prospect live on TV! But unfortunately, he hasn't been given any matches this season and it doesn't look like that he will get any at all for the remainder of the season.

Which other talented Indian players do you believe have been wasted this season? Here are a few more of my picks:

1. Another talent which I believe that has been wasted this season is Gurkeerat Mann from KXIP. It is well known to most IPL followers both who post and don't post on this forum that Kings XI Punjab is light on domestic Indian batsmen, yet they don't give a chance to Mann who has done well in domestic cricket and knows how to bat well on Indian pitches. Even when he did get chances, he was wasted down the order behind the likes of Axar Patel and Saha.

2. Kulwant isn't the only fast bowler that has been wasted, there is another one in the name of Ankit Rajpoot from KKR! A lot of us in this group rate Rajpoot very highly and believe that he should be close to a India call-up in the ODI format. But he has been wasted by Kolkata Knight Riders and has played only 3 matches for them so far this season! With Woakes being unavailable for the playoffs, there is a chance that we might get to see more of Rajpoot in this tournament. Let's see what happens!

3. When your main opener is failing, it's time for his replacement to get some chances. However, that hasn't happened with Mayank Agarwal from RPS. Anyone who is following IPL this year can see that Rahane has been failing every game yet keeps getting selected. Even his uncapped opening partner Tripathi is looking like a million dollars compared to him which tells you how bad Rahane's form/ability has been so far. Agarwal is considered one of the biggest hitters in our domestic scene who can take the game away from the opposition in quick time just like his idol Sehwag. Yet h has been dropped after 3 chances while Rahane keeps getting a free ride.

4. When you are knocked out of the tournament, it wouldn't hurt to give some youngsters a chance to play. But Avesh Khan from RCB hasn't gotten any. Despite Bangalore being eliminated from this year's tournament, Avesh hasn't gotten any dead rubber matches to show case his talent to the audience. Kohli has been stubborn in his selection and keeps giving Arvind matches while Avesh warms the bench and witnesses RCB losing match after match. Anyone who hhas watched the U19 World Cup last year will see that Avesh has got the right talent to be a decent pace bowling prospect but we will never know since he never gotten any chances. This is one thing which I appreciate about Gujarat Lions, they have given chances to Thampi even when they got eliminated because they identified that he is the future and not the 2 grandfathers Praveen & Munaf.

5. Many of us believe that Vijay Shankar from SRH has got what it takes to play for India in the 2 main formats of the game; ODI & Test cricket. But he hasn't been given chances by SRH either this season and even last season as well. For those of you who don't know, Shankar is a batsman that can bowl decent medium pace as well, which makes him a batting allrounder. Both Shankar and Pandya can rival each other in who becomes India's first choice batting allrounder which excites many of us fans because we finally have 2 talented pace bowling allrounders while in the past we didn't have even 1. Also, we can finally move on from that failure Binny who never deserved to play for the national team in the first place. Hopefully Shankar plays more for India "A" and performs really well so that he can press his claim for the national team, because I don't see him getting consistent chances with this IPL season almost over!

Fellow ICFers, if you guys want to add more names, you are more than welcome to do so! A brief description of the wasted talent would be greatly appreciated as well! :icflove:

Next year is going to bring some harsh truth for some established players in the next big draft, especially if they keep their starting price high

The emergence of Delhi's young brigade of Samson, Iyer and Pant  and along with Tripathi, Ishan is going to attract big bids. Then you have the young bowlers who have emerged; Basil, Kuldeep, Anikeet, Thakur.

The reliability of likes of Axar, Krunal, Negi

IPL is not some playground to test out new players as per one's wish. The players who are paid huge salary will obviously be front runners and are selected to prove their value.

True. But RCB have absolutely nothing to play for now. Not even pride. They should have tried Avesh.

Natarajan by kxip. Never given the security which Gujarat gave basil thampi.

Ishan kishan. Probably the 2nd best indian talent after pant but wasted by gl. Should have opened whole season.

Murugan ashwin and chama milind were wasted by the so called academy DD.

Others mentioned already.

If thats the case then no young would have ever shined and we would have known the worth of the player.

There are many examples of youngsters shining when given chances. If your team is not a playground to test young players then dont pick them. Pick a all star team and play with them. Some other team will do better with them.

And case in point RCB also had some great talent in manish pandey, yuzvendra chahal, sarfaraz Khan.

IPL motto is "where talent meets opportunity" .

On topic: Don't agree with Mayank. He bottles starts in bulk. Some of my twitter friends from karnataka have been following him from start and they get frustrated with him in ranji too.

Rest is OK. I also would like to add aniket to the list. People say he is kohli's favourite and some people even called him better than bhuvi but he wasn't given proper chance, instead you had aravind being smashed to all parts.

Khejrolia, Ankit, Vijay, Avesh,Vishnu Vinod and Nathu(injury) are the wasted one this IPL.

Forgot about Vishnu. He should have got more chances. Cant say Nathu was wasted as he got to play and did well. He would have played more had he not got injured.
