Ben stokes Another choke in Big game.

Recommended Posts

Stop overusing this word choker every time someone is expected to do well and he fails. Its sport. Sometimes you do well, sometimes you dont.

In today's game, it seemed like England batsmen had no clue how to bat on sluggish pitches. They are quite used to playing on batting wickets where they can pile on 350. These pitches are closer to what you get in BD, SL and UAE because of their slow nature.

It was a choke. They were overwhelming favourites, playing at home, playing a team they demolished in numerous ODIs last year and made a completely below par total on a track where the poorest batting side in the tourney chased down with only two wickets lost and plenty overs to spare

So did we choke against SL?  Team won on better performance is not called as choke.

This is not choke ffs.

England was never in Wiining position since the match started.

Pakistan team performance was better than England and they won. That's it.

Say what? 18ish of the last over with Samuels batting around 125 SR ish. Brathwaite pulled off a blinder. Which match were you watching or did you even watch the match?

They were clearly outplayed. I don't want to put labels like Chokers. This team is right now one dimensional. Give them flat tracks and they will pile up big runs with their aggressive batsmen. They have failed repeatedly on tough pitches so they need to improve their to have a chance at the 2019 WC at home which is still their best chance to win

If a team is favored in a matchup, as England was over Pakistan, and they lose to a clearly inferior team, that is a choke. England were the #4 ODI side, and Pakistan struggled to even qualify for the CT.  One can easily say that England underperformed in a knockout match, after destroying everyone in the group stages, including destroying the WC holders in the Aussies.

This is the same reason that SA is known for choking, they consistently are favored in knockout matches, yet they always under-perform on the day and lose matches they are supposed to win.

I personally wouldn't call our loss to SL a choke, as I don't think a team can really choke in group stage matches, barring a crazy upset like Ireland upsetting England, especially matches where our side had absolutely no pressure to win: India was already on top of the table with a giant NRR advantage and we only needed to win 1 match out of SL and SA to qualify. If we play poorly and lose in the knockouts to either Bangladesh or Pakistan then it's perfectly fair to call it a choke.

That's a very wrong definition of choke.

When a team is need 2 runs from last over and they end up losing is called choke.

When you have to defend 20+ runs in last over and end up losing is called choke.
