They are definitely an improved side since the first game but we need to draw out our flaws and find the right combination . This 11 isn't doing the job well enough against a rejuvenated side. Biggest issues is Ashwin/Jadeja/Pandya/ Shami Rohit Shikhar Kohli Yuvi Jadhav Dhoni Bhuvi Bumrah We have 3 spots left and 4 people to possible toss up. Ashwin = Better bowler but batting ability Jadeja = All round ability plus fielding Pandya = as a 3rd seamer not working and batting is very hit and miss Shami - 3rd seamer - Strike bowler. Wht would you guys do ? Depends on the pitch a little bit. If its totally flat and nothing at all for the spinner, which is what I think it will be, then play one spinner, Shami and Pandya. I would go with Ash, Shami and Pandya. Link to comment

bleaf27 Posted June 15, 2017 Author Share Posted June 15, 2017 I'm a bit underwhelmed with Pandya. His role is of a 3rd seamer and he can't even get 10 overs in. and goes for RPO of around 8. His batting except 5 balls against Pakistan is non existent. Shami for Pandya - we get a specialist seamer who is a strike bowler. But I would keep Ashwin in the team. Bench Jadeja - if you need a few overs of left arm spin - Yuvi is there. Not just to pose for the cameras for 50 overs. Once Ash completes his spell in the 39th over or so, Jadeja can come and field for him. He may even be able to field for more than that by subbing for Shami or Bumrah for a few overs earlier in the game. These pitches just don't have enough grip for Jadeja's darts to be effective. Sure he's good enough to still be utilitarian, but Ash will provide that higher wicket-taking probability in the middle overs. Link to comment

Originally preferred Jadeja as he is a better fielder and a slightly better hitter. Link to comment

Cricketics Posted June 15, 2017 Share Posted June 15, 2017 I feel Umesh will be better bet than Shami because Shami might not be fit. None of us know about Shami's fitness, only Kohli and co would. If there is any doubt with Shami's fitness, I will play Umesh for Ashwin and have Shami continue to warm the bench and have Ashwin carry Gatorade amd Bananas. As great a bowler as Ashwin is, he looks off color. And his fielding is not even in the same pincode as the others. Shami in. Ashwin out. Rahane 12th man. If Pandya is not given the ball , why is he in the team ? Pandya's job is 70 % with the ball and 30 % with the bat. If Pandya isn't gonna bowl - might as well let Shami/Umesh or Ashwin be in for him Vilander and nevada 2 Link to comment
