New India coach discussion thread [Update : Ravi Shastri is the Coach]

Recommended Posts

A BCCI official told PTI that 7-10 more days will be given for receiving fresh applications from candidates still interested in the job. “Look, when we had invited applications last time, Anil was an automatic entry. That might have prompted a lot of people from thinking that what's the need to apply when current coach is doing well and is in the mix," a senior BCCI official said.

"Now the situation has completely changed. A lot of people will now be interested knowing it's an open field," the official added.

On the question of Virender Sehwag being the front runner for the coach position, the official said, "Sehwag's application has no relation with BCCI to call for more applications. In the end, it would be CAC which will decide on the next coach. More the options, better the choice."

All drama. Basically for Shastri to apply and get selected...

Viru game over, it seems...

Last time Dada sounded unhappy with Shashtris attitude. Feeling was mutual as Shashtri blamed dada leaving/not staying in middle of interview. If he gets appointed then more likely then not, it will be purely down to Kohli's support.

The way its going, and the senior players thinking they are above team esp Kohli, why do we even need a coach? These 'top' players know hot to play cricket, they can decide how they should play.

Ever since we have started treating these overpaid lulus like semi gods they have decided they hold power in everything, Dhoni and Kohli.

Look at football, they are paid millions but they still respect the COACH/MANAGER and listen to his shouting and abuses if they play ****. Because if the team does **** the Manager gets sacked, no one sacks players. Therefore the coach has the right and final say in all team decisions.

Because Football and cricket are different type of sports.

Tell me a single tactical decision a football captain has to take during the field of play.

Everything will be dictated by the coach .That's why coach /manager role is more prominent.

Even then ,coach is regularly sacked once they lose the dr swing room in football.

^ Football is very tactical game. Coach can decide to attack, park the bus, attack on counter, retain the ball type game and various formations depending on requirement. And he maintains a lot bigger squad in which there are very few irreplaceable players. Apart from fielding, I find cricket quite close to being a individual performance based sports.

In Cricket, its Captain who makes decisions in the middle. In footie its Coach who makes decision for the ones in middle.

Hence you can not compare the managers of two. IPL which is very intensive can be slightly closer to Manager driven sport.
