After Kumble was ousted clearly players made their liking known to CAC. Do you really believe these things wouldn't be discussed by CAC outside formallu announced official meetings? It doesn't matter who convinced whom to apply. Effectively all three reluctantly or willingly agreed on Shastri's name before Shastri was convinced to apply. This is amply clear since Shastri had made it known he will only apply if he gets the job. But I think logical thinking is lost in anger for many ICFers. As a coach he will be a different person as he has the authority now. But he will be smart enough to be in kohlis good books. Shastri is a big fan of pandya and has an eye for spotting talent. The only downside at the moment of Ravi Shastri is Rohit in tests and Rahane and Dhoni in ODIs would keep on getting chances or playing inspite of mediocre performance.But the truth is they were all going to get chances due to Kohli anyway. Agreed others were better choices but Ravi Shastri may or may not be hazardous. Cannot predict at this moment. Link to comment
