Hindus, a minority

zen

Recommended Posts

Historically, men have manufactured ways to wage wars. WW1 and WW2 can be attributed to factors such as militarism, imperialism, nationalism, etc. If WW3 were to happen, religion could be a driving force. Note that a scenario where countries unite to bash China is not a WW.

Below is how people follow (or not follow) religion currently:

  • Christianity 32%
  • Islam 23%
  • Unaffiliated 16%
  • Hinduism 15%

Hinduism is distant 3rd. Unaffiliated group is as large as Hindus. From the above, we can say that Hindus are a minority when compared with the other two major religions.

Below are countries with the highest percentage of Hindu population:

  • Nepal 81%
  • India 80%
  • Mauritius 49%
  • Guyana 28%

In terms of numbers, India has the highest number of Hindus. When considering both numbers and Hindus as a percentage of population, India is the flag bearer for the religion.

Let us look at the Jewish State, Israel, which is:

  • Among the front runners of science and technology
  • Proudly religious
  • Fighting to keep its culture and religion alive in a hostile neighborhood

It appears that Israel blends culture, religion and science brilliantly. Focus on religion and culture is not seen as a backward step. Embracing modern technology is not equated to automatically ditching traditions. In fact, the focus on the religion and culture has made Israel strong

When I look at Ind, the situation appears contradictory:

  • Hindus fight Hindus (when they should be looking to strengthen their influence at the world stage)
  • Religion and culture are seen to be automatically against science, technology and modern practises by many (When there is no need for such a line of thinking)
  • Not standing up for your own religion and culture (historical values) is perceived as being modern (When many countries that are perceived as modern actually do cling on to their historical beliefs, religion, etc.)

Hindus have been blessed with a relatively large territory and plenty of resources. But they have constantly put themselves in difficult situations by polluting the land, adding more people to the population than what is required, unnecessarily ignoring their religion and cultural values, etc. Imagine if Israel had the resources that India has, it could have been a superpower.

Look at the people of Tibet, who despite being subjugated by the Chinese, continue to fight for their beliefs including religion and culture. They have not forgotten their heritage in spite of the rise in science and technology. The British tried to undermine local culture and practices to maintain their stronghold and advance their "divide and rule" policy. Many in India appear to be still impacted by this considering everything western as modern and everything "Hindustani" as relic.

Sooner or later, Hindus will have to wake up, unite and be responsible towards not only their heritage but also the planet and the environment.  If Hindus don't stand up for themselves, who will? Need to take control to become a truly respected force in the world!

I can't believe how a lot of people in India call their parents Mom and Dad. What is wrong with Mataji and Pitaji?

Bollywood has a big effect.

As for Hindus, you guys made a big blunder in 1947. That was the time for you to have a safe haven free from the chaos caused by Muslims but no you let them stay behind in large numbers and you are paying for that now and most likely always will. You somehow think that Indian Muslims are not like Pakistanis or Bangladeshis but that is only when they are a small minority. You let your famous women marry muslims, even Pakistanis.

You let yourselves be bullied by muslims in Kashmir despite having military power and yet you let the Muslims live with you in neighbouring Jammu where you are the majority. Hindus need to toughen up. Treat people as they treat you.

regional cultural and language takes higher priority for Hindus, and it is even more prominent  when Indian Hindus go overseas

i always felt the Eurpoean Union wants to move towards how India is setup, obviously without mass overpopulation, low quality education and lack of respect to environment.

Religions become useless when they do not encourage evolution. Evolution comes when followers are equipped. In almost all the religions, followers are made into slaves. That is why religions never evolve. Now certain things are detrimental to spiritual growth and one has to abstain from such thing. Now it is very difficult to lead such abstemious life but it is necessary. Hinduism at one point was leading us to spiritual life earlier. The religion got distorted into god knows what. No wonder it is compared with other religions which are already leading to misguided path. In the west, there are so many people who are accepting spiritual path now. Spirituality can co-exist with science but not the other way.

Religion starts with individual and not the custodians who adulterate the whole idea. So who bash religions, please seek more spiritual path and you will find it as interesting as science. I always thought the fight would be between believers and non-believers but here we find it is always between various believers. When one becomes spiritual first thing happens is you give up argumentative attitude.

Btw, Hinduism is used as the representative of religions originating in Ind

United we stand, divided we fall

No. Buddhism is representative of religions originating from India, both due to its relatively greater empirical truth factor and its greater global footprint-currently and historically.

I am all for leaving religion...if ppl from all other religions comply..but that's not the case...in the end what happens is one religion or two...the major ones who practice encouraging others to convert will win and dominate over all other religions...as happened in the past..peaceful, non-confrontational cultures/religions got wiped out.

Except almost all major religions in the world are declining. Only one sustaining itself/growing slowly worldwide is Islam, because # of muslims leaving Islam is balancing out by their high birth rate. Which is a good thing. World will be a better place if people can think for themselves, instead of relying on ancient stories written by ancient half-literates who have less info about our existence than grade 7 children.

Peaceful, non-confrontational cultures got wiped out due to material inferiority of said cultures in face of the war-mongering ones. Situation is opposite now. Christianity is declining worldwide. Peaceful, non-confrontrational Germany or Japan today can mess up practically anyone in the muslim world by so much as sneezing on them. turkey, Pakistan, Saudi, etc have no means of hurting Germany or Japan and the gap between these peaceful developed nations and religious hell-holes, in terms of technology, is increasing, not decreasing.

  • The number of Muslims will nearly equal the number of Christians around the world.
  • Atheists, agnostics and other people who do not affiliate with any religion – though increasing in countries such as the United States and France – will make up a declining share of the world’s total population.
  • The global Buddhist population will be about the same size it was in 2010, while the Hindu and Jewish populations will be larger than they are today.
  • In Europe, Muslims will make up 10% of the overall population.
  • India will retain a Hindu majority but also will have the largest Muslim population of any country in the world, surpassing Indonesia.
  • In the United States, Christians will decline from more than three-quarters of the population in 2010 to two-thirds in 2050, and Judaism will no longer be the largest non-Christian religion. Muslims will be more numerous in the U.S. than people who identify as Jewish on the basis of religion.
  • Four out of every 10 Christians in the world will live in sub-Saharan Africa.

Any proof that Israel mixes religion, culture and science ?

Rett is saying that basically Israel has an official state religion, Judaism, a culture, Jewish culture, and is also a leader in science/tech. They don't have any artificial barriers between the 3.

Where there are liberals/communists/atheists, they proliferate the ideas about religion being bad for society.  They are the ones spreading that religion following is going down.

Just like Freedom of Expression, Religion as long as it is expressed without being on their sleeve or not being supremacist like Islam/evangelist christians, NO NEED TO FEEL INFERIOR ABOUT FOLLOWING IT.

I see christianity  is going down amongst whites, but latin america, mediterranean Europe or Eastern europe it is growing.

Hindus who blindly follow these white liberals and think that following religion is bad are in this group.

We all know how Islam is growing.

Liberals/communists/atheists want us to believe that Hindutva radicals are as bad as Mullahs or fundamentalists in the above group.

They are in fringe and not in mainstream Hinduism.  So, we can ignore these fear-mongering.

I guess in Israel, there not many  liberals/communists/atheists, and hence they don't see these problems as in India towards associating with science/technology but still associate with a religion/culture/tradition.

We Indians are somehow made to feel ashamed to associate with a religion/culture/tradition by these commies.

'Give up religion or face punishment,' says China's Communist Party to its members

  • The Chinese Communist Party is officially atheist
  • It forbids its 90 million members from holding religious beliefs
  • However China's constitution explicitly allows "freedom of religious belief"
  • NEW DELHI: Members of China's Communist Party need to give up religion and "be firm Marxist atheists" or face punishment, the country's religious affairs regulator has said, reported Global Times.

The Chinese Communist Party is officially atheist, but China's constitution explicitly allows "freedom of religious belief".

"Party members should not have religious beliefs, which is a red line for all members", wrote Wang Zuoan, director of the State Administration for Religious Affairs, in the latest issue of the Party's flagship magazine.
