Shastri: Not yet time for Dhoni, Yuvraj to quit

Recommended Posts

No surprise here.

"Mumbai: Newly appointed Team India head coach believes that it is not yet time for senior cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh call curtains on their respective careers as of yet.

Both Yuvraj and Dhoni are in their mid thirties, but have played a crucial role in India’s limited overs sides, ever since Virat Kohli took over as the captain in January, 2016."

When Yuvi is on the field, he literally looks like he is playing a veteran's game. He is kept near the boundary on purpose and yet cant even move quickly enough to stop boundaries. With due respect for his achievements in the past and being a cancer survivor, he should not be humiliated further and gracefully retire. Dhoni can make it if he works really hard for couple of years. His experience will help.

Dhoni does work really hard. That much we must give him. Too bad his hand eye coordination and reflexes have slowed considerably, and no amount of hard work will help restore those.  And that his experience will help is really more a knock on Kohli's ineptness as captain.

As for Yuvi, the less said the better. Hard to feel sorry for someone who isn't even putting in the hard work.

Only hope is that Australia send a pacy attack when they tour for the ODI series in November(?). Then there's the series against Saffers in SA. Pray hard that these two series show up the two has-beens for what they are - liabilities.

Realistically. these two seasoned players know exactly which injury to fake to avoid these two series.

They'll just blame the Kumble regime, and say that the Shastri-Kohli regime needs time to undo the damage from the past and build their own foundation. Not surprisingly Shastri got a 2 year contract vs Kumble's one year contract
