NASSER HUSSAIN BLASTS ENGLAND SELECTOR’S SELECTION POLICIES. Wish one of our ex-players spoke like him

Recommended Posts

Hussain said, “The lads who are coming in aren't doing anything. They won (the first Test at Lord's because of Joe Root...the ones they've won before have been because of Root, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad in Johannesburg.

He continued, “The selectors are going to have to have a good long look at themselves because their record in the last two years -- two years ago it was one-day cricket, now in Test match cricket -- their selections have been abysmal.

Name some lads who've come in: (James) Vince, (Ben) Duckett, (Gareth) Batty, (Zafar) Ansari...I can name a long list but no-one's coming in and doing well. Ballance, Alex Hales.”

Hussain also criticized the selection of Gary Balance saying, “Selection is not just about saying 'Gary Ballance has 1,000 first-class runs so Gary Ballance plays'. Speak to umpires, speak to bowlers, has he actually changed? He hasn't changed a thing and we're getting exactly what we got the last two times. He'll go back to county cricket and score runs again but that doesn't mean he's an international cricketer.”

Something thats also happening in Indian cricket

Something similar that i believe is the case with someone like Dinesh karthik or many people who keep getting recycled

Wish we had someone like hussain , instead indian cricket has people who get blinded by IPL n domestic n doesnt wanna study more then stats

First name that come to my mind reading this was DK :giggle:

Also indian rockstars cant take an ounce of criticism. Harsha said something which wasnt even criticism and he was fired.

Better to say nothing about legends. Great players but awful after that. Did absolutely nothing useful till now .

It is very easy to complain, what will selectors do if the selected players are not doing the job. They selected Hasseb but he has stunk this season, Jennings scored an 100 on debut three tests back. The selections are fine but team composition is wrong. They do not need Dawson.Coaches are to be blamed for that, who plays two spinners in England.

You need to reward performances in domestic cricket or there will be no one who wants to play them seriously. While on one hand there are DKs or Ballances but there will also be Steve Smiths or VVS Laxmans who went back to domestic cricket after initial failures made come backs and never looked back.

England's problem is they have too many bits and pieces players. They may work in odis but they will never be consistent in tests.

India had this problem in 1980s to mid 1990s till Manoj Prabhakar retired. On paper India had Kapil, Shastri, Prabhakar, Binny, Madan Lal. Except Kapil none of them were international class and it showed in tests they simply could not win even at home.

Players like Kallis are so hard to find.England is going gaga over Stokes but he simply is not good enough bowler who can run thru sides or can command a place in top order  and same is the case with Ali.

An allrounder should walk into a team based on either bowling or batting.

Ofocurse domestic perfomances shud be considered......But not only that

Now, u have to go n look has the player improved his areas which he had issues with and thats what naseer said

Now by watching stats anyone can be a selector , but selector have to identify right player some may even not have gr8 stats . If only stats become the criteria we ll have a pace attack led by vinay kumar and an all rounder like rishi over pandya

Now when a player is dropped u have to look has he worked on his problem

Raina has a short ball problem, he ll go n smash domestic trundler but does tht assure that his short pitch problem against 140k + bowlers have solved

Rohit goes to domestic n smashes triple hundred does that mean he has become a better test batsman

Karthik every time goes to domestic or ipl smashes runs and comes back to show a brain fade. Now after 13 yrs has he solved his mental issues.....n how are we judging by his perfomance in domestic were stands are empty and bowling isnt of highest quality

Karthik or any TTFs   who are called up after lighting up domestic cricket will have limited shelf life if they fail on their comebacks. Just because they have failed you don't discard them or the process. All selectors are hoping in their cases is catch lightening in bottle and hope they carry their domestic form to international scene.Andy Bichel comes to mind, he was selected to Australian side on back of strong domestic performances and he did play a vital role in Aussies winning 2003 world cup. After he lost his form he was discarded.

Raina will never overcome his short comings and same thing happened with Yuvraj he never over came his technical deficiencies and hence was a test failure. Yuvi stopped getting into test squad once likes of Kohlis and Pujaras made their way.

Selection of Rohit in squad to Sl is not wrong at all. He will not get many more chances. He got this chance because Nair has flopped and no other youngster has shown that class.Once that happens Rohit will fade away from test scene like Yuvi/Raina .

Yuvi/DK are getting selected to odi squads for one reason alone. No youngster has pushed them out, show me one youngster who can match Yuvi's stroke play in domestic cricket.

This guy has been failing for 13 yrs.....and constantly blowing up chances one after another.....how many do we want to give him to decide he is not meant for it

Have we tried all youngster that we have declared their case hopeless....infact most godo ones are yet to be given a chance

Stroke play ill come to that later

1st the guy needs to survive out his intial phase to go bonker, he looks so poor that he cant pass that phase only

Spin, pace u name it and he struggles now

Obv when on song he looks amazing but cant wait for that one perfomance in 15-20 games

No one looks as vunerable as yuvraj at start if we go n find in domestic

Now stroke play- pant, hooda, rahul, pandey , kishen are bloody good and they ll get better with time. Even Yuvraj singh didnt become the player he was when he came in. Over the year yuvraj became a better player and better stroke player to .

I have not seen one youngster recently who look as talented as Rohit was in 2007 or Yuvi was in 2000. Yuvi was stroke player from the word go, where are the next Pujaras if they are churning runs like Pujara did they will be called up.

These youngsters have IPL to show case their talent and has any India youngster other than Pant impressed, in my view the answer is no.Pant did and he will get his chances.

Why are you hung up  DK getting called up for one meaning less series.

N rohit struggled, someone less better looking knws as kohli turned out to be best batsman

Yuvi use to be damn week against spin , atleast pant doesnt struggle against any one thing badly

Pujara struggled overseas himself and again kohli , rahane proved to be much better

Chance nhin doge to kaise pata chalega, kona acha hai, kon better hai

REcycle karte rahoge wahi result milega

This meaningless cud have been a platform to try few youngsters, when wud u wanna try them against WI or at the end of the year against Sa in SA

Its a wasted oppurtunity to build towards the world cup. Pandya, jadhav, bumrah are back bones of the lo squads and they only needed a few oportunities to prove themselves.instead of looking for other matchwinners the team gives chances to rahane, ashwin, jadeja and kartik who at their best can only be average lo players.

Ashwin and jadeja are no1 and no2 test bowlers and they were the reason why India won CT last time .You want them to kicked out. Rahane is the backbone of Indian test batting and he still aspires to have an odi career. What would you as do as a captain/selectors not give him chances in an meaningless series to appease him. People were asking to kick Dhawan out of the team long before the CT but he proved to be one of India's best batstmen there.

I am all for youth movement but you don't play youth just for the sake of playing them you need to to have talent too.I don't see any talented youngster left out other than Pant.Pant is getting and will get his chances.

Pandya got his chances what did he do? did he make any difference with bat or ball. There are no Sachins in domestic cricket who are being left out.

SO is pujara, vijay....get them also

Langer shud have been played in ODi and so shud have eng continued with cook

Look at his ODI numbers, post 70 games this guy had an avg of 32 and s/r of 78 in modern cricket(before WI )

He is a good cricketer but he has been given so much chance.....what has he done in ODI

He cant accelerate

His dot ball % is so high

Throws away his starts

Struggles in middle overs

Have to be hidden incase we need to score quick

Why wud u back such guy........just becoz he is good in some other format whichn played with diff ball
