He has won more series for India than  anybody  in Indian history including Tendulkar, Kumble, Kapil.  Everyone had a chance to play at home. Why couldn't they do what Ashwin did.

Because the pitches were not as spin friendly on a consistent basis as of today. The key here is consistency of such conditions being provided. Using home advantage without hesitation and preparing pitches accordingly and its being openly spoken of even in news outlet by coaches, players etc.

I guess you have not seen the Tests in the 90s.  These pitches are far from being helpful like we had in the 90s. Only difference they didn't have 5 variations that Ashwin has.

 Stop talking about stuff you have no clue about. Pitches in 90s were all pretty much dust bowls and yet none of the spinners had a sub 25 average. Only from 2003 onwards, pitches became a bit more batting friendly in India.

Anil Kumble in 90s at home

Matches: 29

Innings: 53

Wickets: 163

Avg: 21.35

5fers: 11

10fers: 3

Ashwin

Matches: 31

Innings: 63

Wickets: 208

5fers: 20

10fers: 6

Kumble and Ashwin both picked wickets at similar rate 3.07 and 3.3 respectively, but Kumble did it at better average.

I agree. Both Kumble and Ashwin are awesome and Kumble is a legend. I was referring to others like Kulkarni, Joshi and a bunch of others who played for India. If taking wickets was that easy at home like some people are making it out to be in case of Ashwin, why were there not others in 90s ?

If anyone is impressed by Ashwin I feel bad for them. He is the most physically unfit person I have seen. His body fat is very high for a first class player and he is unfit. Needs to put on some muscle mass. Pathetic.

Who cares about body fat % when the player wins you matches and series' in a way no cricketer in history has done before? Joke of a post by you.

Ashwin should go as number one with 2000 runs and 250 wickets because others reaches 2000 runs and 200 wickets before him but no one reaches 286 (250)  wickets and 2000 test runs in

51 test

Its took Botham 42 test for 2000/200 Imran, kapil also much faster. Now Ash need 15 more (301) to break Fathers (Lillee's) record.India trashed SL by an innings.

Ash 286 test wickets in 51 test

Jadeja 155 test wickets in 32 test.

How is he winning the matches/ How do you know someone else would not do the same or better? you have know idea how pathetic he is. There are three other spinners in India who can outperform him. Get over it.

gavaskar kept making point post match that ashwin is being under utilized by kohli,is it true or that was just rant from sunnyg

It is true. Has been happening right from the England home series. Whenever Ashwin is bowling well or getting into a nice rhythm he is being taken off the attack. On many occasions Ash gets 2-3 wickets during close of play and next morning he isn't given the ball for a whole session. Today he got 3-4 overs and then a solitary over just before lunch where he almost got Matthews out 3 times in 5 deliveries. After lunch he was immediately taken off the attack and Pandya was given the ball for a long spell. Jaddu got a long spell from one end whole day while Ashwin was taken out for no reason. Must be demoralizing for a strike bowler to be treated this way. Sunny was livid throughout the day regarding Kohli's treatment of Ash. Call me an alarmist but somehow I get a feeling that Kohli is jealous of Ashwin's stellar record and out of the world MOS wins in his short career so far. He is going out of his way to deny the offie 5/10 wicket hauls.

Jadeja just out performed him You did not answer my question. He was a failure in CT. How do you know others are not better than him?

He failed badly in one match(final) where even Jadeja and the Pakistani leggie got taken to cleaners. In fact Jadeja would have hit a century if he had bowled his full quota that day, pitch was a graveyard for spinners. Same Ashwin bowled brilliantly on flat pattas in 2015 CWC.

Kohli has been poor in general when it comes to handling the bowlers. He includes Pandya in the team, says big about him in press conference and then ends up giving him ball after 60-70 overs. Those words are meaningless if he doesn't do anything for the players. Then some day he just overbowls pacers and underbowls spinners and sometimes he overbowls spinners. Appears to be completely clueless about how to manage his resources. If you see the scorecard you will think that everyone got fair chance, but if you watch the match story is different.

His predecessor was clueless about pacers, but good with spinners and now he is gone a step forward with being clueless about everyone.

Sports hernia

The one with which he played Aus series at home and then sat out of IPL

There is a thing called rhythem in bowling which takes time

  1.  He got cleared and was given medically fit to play Hence you play.   Every athlete needs rhythm , Whether cricket or not -  that is not an excuse to perform horrendously on international stage.  Being a liability just because you haven't found your "rhythm" is not a reason.

Most of the bowlers get figured out in 5 or 10 tests.

When they suck you will get back to Ashwin? That is not the way you build a nucleus. You don't use horses for courses policy in Test matches. Here is a bowler who is averaging 25 in tests and ranked 2nd or 3rd in the world. You ignore him over a rookie. Your ranking tells you how long your slump is. Ashwin is still miles better than any spinner in India. Not only that. He is better batsman than some of the top order in overseas conditions. Don't make up stories there is a warne , murali waiting in the wings. We have seen everyone. Only guy who can walk in is Kuldeep. I challenge you he will be figured out within 5 or 10 tests if he doesn't add variations.

You give Ashwin too much credit. I dont rate Warne and Murali as bowlers anyway.Jadeja outperformed him and so will Yadav. He is one of the five good spinners India has. He does not walk on water as his supporters claim.

There are many instances Ashwin outperformed Jaddu too. Yea bhuvaneswar outperformed Kohli at Lords with bat. Bhuvaneswar should be picked in place of Kohli for England tours? They basically complement each other. That is why they were no.1, no.2 bowlers in the world not long ago.  You don't win 7 man of the series (should have won 8) just by not being the best bowler in the country.

All that mean you got more opportunities than others. He was pathetic in CT. Wat happened here?
