Why Steven Smith no longer bowls?

Started his career as a bowler and was even thought of at one time as a replacement for Warne when Aussies were hunting for their next wrist spinner after Warne and MacGill. Soon, his batting took off and bowling took a backseat. But he still put in few overs here and there.

But of late, he hasn't bowled a ball in Tests for a long time. Surprisingly, even playing in spin friendly conditions like India and Bangladesh. Not a single ball bowled in any Test in India and even so far in Bangladesh tour. Sure enough he is good to slip in a few overs. Especially, when there are no wrist spinners in the Aussie team.

Cuz he's shyte.

Good enough to slip in few overs. Nobody expecting him to be a frontline spinner now. Even Michael Clarke used to bowl often in sub-continent/as a partnership breaker and was very successful as a part-time spinner. Smith is the only wrist-spinner in the line-up.

I think he is decent, kinda in the Sachin mould. Can't rely on him being accurate but he does slip in a few jaffas here and there. He can turn the ball big on occasions and has a good flipper and googly. Like SRT he will bowl many full tosses or short pitch filth but can be a partnership breaker thanks to his bag of tricks. Ofc in Aussieland his services aren't required but what stops him from bowling on SC decks? Is he carrying some chronic injury that stops him from bowling more often, as some posters on an Aussie forum suggested? Or is he underestimating his bowling? In 2012-13 Aussie commentators were hyping him up as the next Warne but now he is a legendary batsman who doesn't bowl at all, this is odd. May be the only comparison is Sir Garfield Sobers who was a bowler and no 11 bat initially but ended his career as an all time top 5 batsman and a mediocre bowler.
