Dhoni: Greatest Indian Cricketer?

Recommended Posts

I feel he is already the best wicket keeper batsman of all time, but winning the ct13, t20 world cup 2007, cricket world cup 2011, surely cements him as the best cricketer India has ever produced.

That is 3 pieces of silverware, while teams like new zealand and south africa have cobwebs in their cupboards.

He is far from finished either. Has an excellent record this year. One match where he couldn't finish it off in a meaningless odi series and people want him kicked. smh. Fans need to have faith, he is here to stay until 2019 world cup.

Love you Dhoni!

LOL what a joke of a thread, Plz don't bring the quality of this forum down with these garbage threads.

Dhoni is nowhere near to being the best Indian cricketer, He was a pathetic test player, He's not even the best Indian cricketer in ODIs as Sachin and Kohli are easily ahead of him and he's a garbage t20 international player. So basically dhoni is great in just 1 format and even in that he's behind at least 2 cricketers.

Don't mix captaincy with other aspects.

GOAT in terms of LOI captain.

GOAT keeper

ATG in ODI batting

Avg in test captaincy, test and T20I batting.

Far from being the greatest Indian cricketer.

Why LOI? Only ODI.

India has lost 5 t20 WC under his captaincy.

Also he is not a GOAT keeper. He is Indian GOAT keeper though.

Yuvi is a better ODI player than Dhoni..so that's atleast 3.

In ODIs Kapil and UV too are better than Dhoni. Kumble, Srinath, Zak, Dada, Sehwag are more or less at his level.

One of the Greatest if not the Greatest. His Test Cricket Game, both his batting and captaincy was below average which hampers him from qualifying to be the greatest Indian Cricketer. SRT followed by Kapil Dev are two of the greatest Indian Cricketer's for sheer impact they had on Indian Cricket, on fans, being an inspiration to millions to play the game. So in terms of Greatest Cricketers, here are my top 5 picks.

1) Sachin Tendulkar

2) Kapil Dev

3) MS Dhoni

4) Rahul Dravid

5) Sunil Gavaskar

On the outside, Sourav Ganguly for me is the greatest Indian Captain for picking this team up and building the team from dust.

Good cricketer with very average or below average tactical skills. Any captain in the same time frame would have done equally well in terms of wins. I personally would have fired him when he made dravid take the wickets and started bowling. That was the most spineless effort by any Indian team. Should have been removed from captaincy at that point. Makes extremely impulsive decisions on the field and giving bowling changes to part timers is very questionable.

Final Grade: 7/10

Top 5 Indian Cricketer easily. Almost impossible to replicate the number of roles he performed. Complete Package.

lol based on 1 format and that too the ODI format:hysterical:, what an insult to the real top 5 Indian cricketers.

The top 5 Indian cricketers are as follows:-

Sachin Tendulkar

Kapil Dev

Sunil Gavaskar

Rahul Dravid

Anil Kumble

Kohli has a chance to break into the top 5

Undervaluing the role of a ATG wk/bat who filled the missing link in the line up full of great players. I will take Dhoni above couple of others clearly based on the so many roles(wk, bat, finisher, captain, workload)  he performed that eased other players job. Clear davedaaar for Top 5 as of now.

P.S Your list is pretty solid too, so no arguments there. I will have Dhoni at 3 in the list.

I know Ganguly deserves a lot of praise for galvanising the Indian team (he basically did for India what Nasser did for England) but i could never relate to him. He was a prick with a point. I remember when Dhoni first hit the scene i thought to myself, now there's a leader i would operate under. For me that is Dhoni's greatest legacy. Forget the runs.

Lol 'workload' is a role now :cantstop:

All that is true...but only in the ODIs. There are other 2 formats as well. He did noting good but for keeping in those and that's why he will never make it into the top 5 Indian players ever.

Yes obviously workload is a big thing. And that is the reason you see plenty of ATG batsman throughout the world as compared to ATG WKs. Or even rarest of rare who could handle Batting/wk and captainship as well in all 3 formats. Wouldn't there be plenty of other WK/Bat/Captain in the world or Indian history with such numbers, if it was just another regular thing to happen?

And yes I agree he was weaker in Test as compared to ODIs, but it will be hard to find another similar package in 1 player for India. That is why he is top 5.

LMAO at Dhoni having many roles.

Most players have two roles at least : batting / bowling and fielding.

Wicket keeping is also fielding just a but more demanding.

So, dhoni had only one role extra of captaincy.

Lmao at finisher and workload being roles. :rotfl:  Kind of stupid things dhoni fans come up with.

Shameful jabs at Dhoni! Which other cricketer has won you 2 world cups and a trophy? Winning world cups is more important than statistical marvels, it inspires whole new generations and produces future cricketers.

Dhoni akela jeet kar laya tha world cup? In fact he was pathetic with the bat throughout the tournament until he got to feast on his favorite team lanka

Law 27

27.1 Protective equipment

The wicket-keeper is the only fielder permitted to wear gloves and external leg guards. If these are worn, they are to be regarded as part of his/her person for the purposes of Law 28.2

https://www.lords.org/mcc/laws-of-cricket/laws/law-27-the-wicket-keeper/

Now who is fool? I said wicket keeping  is also fielding only a bit more demanding than normal fielders.

There is absolutely nothing inane in my statement. But I cannot expect better from dhoni fans.

LOL I guess because wicketkeeper wears gloves and helmet on field ,he is not fielding. :hysterical: So what he does batting or bowling? :hysterical:
