CG
Quote "We were experimenting with the batting order at that time. We decided that if we get a good opening partnership then Sourav Ganguly would come at No.3 but if we had a bad opening stand then we would send pinch hitters like Irfan Pathan or Dhoni to accelerate the scoring rate," said Sehwag. Quote "Ganguly at that time decided to give Dhoni a chance at No.3 for three or four matches. There are very few captains who would first give away his own batting spot for Virender Sehwag and then his set spot of No.3 for Dhoni. Had Dada (Ganguly) not done that, Dhoni would not have become such a great player. Ganguly always believed in giving chances to new players," Sehwag added. Sehwag also revealed how during Rahul Dravid's captaincy, Dhoni becoming one of the best finishers of the modern era but not before he once got reprimanded by Dravid for losing his wicket with rash shots. "During Rahul Dravid's captaincy, Dhoni got the role of a finisher. He got out a couple of times playing a bad shot and he was also reprimanded by Dravid during one instance. But from that instance, he completely changed his approach and became a very good finisher. The kind of partnerships he had with Yuvraj Singh are memorable," Sehwag further said. http://www.timesnownews.com/sports/article/sourav-gangulys-sacrifice-one-of-the-reasons-behind-ms-dhonis-success-virender-sehwag/102877 Link to comment
sandeep
Good that Dhoni ignored the guidance from Dravid and Gangu, on how to lose winnable games. Link to comment
putrevus
It is clear that Sehwag has some issues with Dhoni. It is ridiculous to say if Dhoni did not bat at no3 he would not have become great. Link to comment
SK_IH
i remember dhoni was changed batsman after that xyz cup in lanka 2005, he mostly failed in that tournament , as an opener he was not good enough to last on dambulla pitch and in middle order also didnt come up with any performance.but one month later in zim,he was a changed batsman and had two wonderful partnerships with yuvi agnst zim in that tri series and took ind home from tough situation once while chasing and once batting 1st obviously post that zim tour, sl came to ind and the rest is history. so i guess the dravid reprimand might have happened in sri lanka but about dada , am not sure , dhoni was promoted to no.3 during that pak odi series and ganguly demoted himself i guess but the fact dada was in such bad form he never deserved to be part of the team let alone captain the side and his form was also one of major reasons of demotion Edited October 7, 2017 by SK_IH CG and sandeep 1 1 Link to comment
