Mumbai batsmen rarely shine in ICC finals

It's true but there have been some exceptions like:

Sandeep Patil in the 1983 WC final

SRT in the 2000 ICC knockout final

Rohit in the 2007 WT20 final

If you see all of them are while setting targets and lookup records while chasing you might find zero contribution surprising for a team that has over 100 years of history. Also SRt and ganguly screwed up the 2000 knock out final they slowed down in the end and gave newzealand a chance.

They put on 140 odd in 26 overs for the first wicket. I don't think ANY team had managed that kind of a start in a ICC final up until then. If anything the screw-up happened in the 2nd half of the innings.

Mumbaikar in WC finals

Gavaskar - 12 ball duck in 83 world cup final

Sachin - 4(2) in 2003 final

Sachin - 18 in 2011 world cup final

Compare that with Delhiites

Amarnath - MoM in world cup final

Sehwag - 84 and top scorer in 03 final

Gambhir - 97 and top scorer in 2011 final(Also top scored in 07 T20 WC final)

lol at ghatis. mental issue, skill is there, but very flimsy.

Even the most poor Mumbai team manages to win Ranjj trophies. S Gavaskar was hardly mentally weak. Sachin was a bit vulnerable though but he had huge pressure of being the only hope from public for a large chunk of his career. Even around ganguly and Dravid people expected a lot from Sachin alone.

This is just a stereotype thread

you can start picking various regions, cities and religions, cultures now and say a generic statement like this too

The problem is there. The khadoos batting style is to blame. It puts unnecessary pressure on batsman from Mumbai.

But who cares.  Narrative and Myth re-inforcing important. Facts not important.

Scorecard doesn't tell all the details. You should watch the match. Both ganguly and tendulkar real slow compared to earlier part of the innings.

Not disputing that at all.  But to claim that Bombay bats are the south africans of India, is a bit of a stretch.  The likes of Ganguly, Dravid, VVS, and even my favorite Sehwag, have exhibited similar tendencies and performances.

Ouch OP.   I see some "sneks" have vomited their poison here already.

How did Sehwag do btw in the T20 and WC finals?   He wasn't from Bombay, was he?   Some other non-Bombay worthies weren't even good enough to make it to those finals.

Sehwag

2003 final-82

2007 t20 Wc final he didnt play

2011- duck

2002 CT- 13* 25*

Hard to pass a statement on sehwag

But yea this whole city based judgment is bizzare

Bombay guys don't have the DNA ,jokes apart Bombay was the hub of Indian cricket n were unchallenged n threw alot of talent due to many reason,

1 It was the melting pot, best talent from India could be found here coz of it being the biggest city in India n land of opportunities

2 Bombay had better infrasturcture n some history to boot, local Bombay talent ain't that great,Nor are Munbaiites as strong mentally as they are known for in domestic when you look at int cricket, except for one Gavaskar, Manjrekar, Tendulkar, Rahane are some examples.

Manjrekar was a nothing. Why even discuss about him.

Tendulkar was dicey. He faltered a bit in extreme pressure situations but at the same time carried the Indian batting on his shoulder alone at some point of his career. The burden of huge expectations and to come out with grand success may not allow one to believe he was mentally weak.

Rahane is not mentally weak. He does seem to be low in confidence at times when he is in bad form.

Ten was mentally weak when you compare with his skill and execution levels. If he could have optimized his anxiety levels he would have done even better, he would for starters have had 15 or so more 100's and he would have won some more finals ( like how he played those cb series best in 3). but he occasionally showed remarkable mental strength under severe anxiety levels like the 241 with no cut shot in tests and his 2003 wc assaut on pak which he said he played in his mind several times and could not have got wrong, just that if he was less anxious he might have done much better.  Rahane is just weak mentally, but can analyse game situation nicely in tests and modify which clearly shows in returns, in LOI he is just not there.
