Why Indian players are not allowed to play in other T20 Leagues?

Recommended Posts

BCCI doesn't want Indian players to get injury or not be available on domestic/International circuits. Another reason is T20 is not real Cricket and hampers skill development and makes local league tooth less.

:giggle:The very same reasons/justifications ECB/CA gave for not letting their players play IPL. For example a story from 2009 to justify exvclusion of their players on grounds of previous experience.

Talks between the England & Wales Cricket Board and the Professional Cricketers Association will be held to resolve a a pay dispute over the Indian Premier League.

The PCA will meet with Andrew Strauss, the England director, to negotiate a new compensation scheme to replace the current one, which will see Ben Stokes docked potentially up to £140,000 for playing in the IPL this year.

Centrally contracted Test players like Stokes and Chris Woakes are deducted 0.5 per cent of their £700,000 a year salary by the ECB for each day they are on IPL duty. White ball players such as Jos Buttler and Jason Roy face losing one per cent every day for 21 days of IPL duty, which drops to 0.75 per cent thereafter. A white ball contract is worth an estimated £180,000.

On top of this, Most people seem unaware of this, but the IPL pays each board a set percentage of the player salary as compensation for the board allowing its player-resource to participate in the IPL.   ECB is quite shameless in cutting their own players' paychecks on top of this.   Especially now that they have acknowledged that IPL participation actually helps the player by improving his game.  And by definition, also helps the England team.

Bcci wants IPL to be the most profitable and popular league with Indian fans who bring in the money directly and indirectly .

If Indian players play in other leagues, Indian fans will follow those leagues too taking the money with them to those leagues.

It is about keeping Indian players exclusively to their league .

Wouldn’t taking part in overseas league improve Indian players? Like say if they played big bash or even the England Blast T20? Surely the condition will help Indian players to improve?

Indian cricket is quite hectic and IPL is pretty long. Current Indian players are already over worked.

I dont agree with what BCCI is doing here , you cannot expect international to play in your league and not let your players participate in other leagues ..fitness , money what ever the excuse it , its just not fair .

At least the non contracted players should be allowed.

If bcci is not paying someone, they should have no say in where they play for a living.

Honestly speaking, we have five good T20 players. Kohli, Bumrah, Rohit, Bhuvi and Pandya. The rest are too inexperienced or just mediocre.

The strangest thing is that we allow our female cricketers to play in foreign T20 leagues.

BS.   Robin Uthappa and Parthiv Patel would be automatic starters for an ODI or T20 team if they were Pakistani.   Sarfraz would be taking his talents to a Karachi Paanwaala if Parthiv Patel was eligible for Pakistan selection.

Let's not overrate Uthappa and Pappu. Uthappa, in particular, always flattered to deceive.

Lot of Indian players have played in Bangladesh 50 over tournament called Dhaka Premier League. Players like Uthappa, Bisla, Chand, etc. Not sure if it’s fair for those players that don’t get picked in IPL teams, plus their development. Playing all the time on flat wickets and turners don’t develop you as players, especially those not heavily involved with national team.

Of course he has.  But a hung-over Uthappa still >>> Fakhar Zaman, for instance.   And Parthiv Patel for all his shyte keeping, is way better cricketer than "fighter" Sarfraz.

I think it's more because of BCCI avoiding a situation where allowing even a single player for any league will open floodgates of question from other boards regarding why not allow to their league as well. A player as used up as yuvraj worth more than a whole team of CPL in terms of eye balls it would bring to watch him. Indian players are brand in itself and reason why BCCI trying to protect the golden goose i e. their exclusivity.

Besides, star is paying lots of money for telecasting domestic matches and it would be wrong to let the domestic stars leave the domestics and play outside.

I don’t want to throw a % without having numbers in front of me But isnt it safe to say that a large chunk of total cricket viewership is from India.

Forget about stats and performances ,isn’t it obvious that Kohli,Dhoni,Rohit etc etc have some of the biggest fan following among all cricketers. Pretty sure Yusuf Pathan has a bigger brand value than say someone like Joe Root.

Now BCCI gets to say that if you want to see the biggest cricketers in the world you have to exclusively tune into IPL...Bollywood,Jhumping Jhapaaks, Cheerleaders only help so much....If Indians play every league what’s the difference between IPL and say some other league out there.

As far as other foregin players playing the Indian league, it’s their free will to say no and some of them like Root,Clarke etc have said no as well because of international commitments.....neither the boards nor the players are stupid enough to say no to the kind of money IPL can shell out.

If tomorrow Pakistani players were allowed in the IPL with a caveat that they need to reject PSL 99% of them will bend down thank almighty and jump the fence....hell they did that for stupid ICL
