PLUSES

  • He knows how to win, especially in test matches. Has won all 8 completed test series against all top teams after being appointed full-time captain. And he has won a very high % of test matches. Has also won  all 5 bilateral ODI series.
  • Seems to be a good man-manager as far as players are concerned . The team looks happy under him and are giving it their all.
  • Has picked 5 bowlers most of the times in tests and has tried to bring bowling culture to Team India.
  • Has improved the fitness culture of our team after taking over.
  • Looks keen to learn from his mistakes.
  • Most probably stresses on the pacers bowling at pace, we are not seeing anyone bowling below 135 k since he took over.

MINUSES

  •  Very defensive in his field settings. Extremely  prone to cutting down on fielders in catching positions, especially in the slips-cordon.
  • He is a follow-the-ball captain. A single 4 and he moves a fielder to that area.
  • Technically not the strongest but he is improving.
  • It seems that he is not good at thinking on his feet.
  • Has too much preference for experienced players and players that he know personally or are friends with.
  • He is playing the ODI team in T20Is. Perhaps not very good at quickly reading the T20 game.

The negatives you have mentioned means he should actually be booted out of captaincy at the earliest :giggle:

In the end, it is the results that matter, and he is delivering.

Also, his positives are very strong and over-riding his negatives in the last 2 years.

p.s - I would like Kohli as the test and ODI captain but a separate captain and specialist  team for T20Is.

His real test and decision making value will only be known after 1 year of overseas tours, in the next year - SA, Aus etc. As for now, his selection of two spinners after seeing and knowing a green top is available for 1st Test is poor. He should have selected a third seamer or introduced Bumrah to see how he copes or tested some other debutant.

Fantastic how we have fought back here and now have chance to win . Great captaincy ?  Or gets no credit . Has instilled fight in to team

There seems to be a sea change between the test sides and LOI sides. He seems more his own man, more attacking with fast bowlers, etc. Even the entire team seems more confident in tests for some reason
