Cricketics
Jadeja is my first choice. He has had success in the past there and I feel even though Ashwin might turn the ball more, its about who will be more effective and Jadeja I feel will suit better. Link to comment
Laaloo
Ashwin. He is a better fielder (slip) and a better batsman than Jadeja. Link to comment
Straight Drive
Tough one. I don't think both have good records in SA. Maybe have to take help of cricinfo statsguru. Link to comment

We are looking for a better bowler, Jadeja is currently surely a bowler who seems to have more weapons and well suited to perform in many conditions. Ashwin might work in a place like Adelaide but hard to play him South Africa. kapedbus 1 Link to comment
Gollum
Play Ashwin in the 1st test and see how he goes, if he flops badly (with both bat and ball) play Jaddu/Kuldeep in the next 2. I am pretty sure the Saffers will take pitch tampering to the next level, totally nullifying our spinners like they did with Herath. In England I will defo pick Ashwin while Kuldeep can get the nod in Aus. We are so lucky to have Pandya, otherwise we would have been forced to pick 2 spinners overseas. The only reason I still prefer Ash is his past show with the bat in Eng and Aus, his stint in county should be appreciated because the lad clearly wants to do well overseas. Jaddu the test batsman is a total fraud(even more than Jaddu the ODI AR), I will trust Shami with the bat but not him. We need our tail to wag in SA and Ash-Bhuvi-Pandya trinity can get it done more often than the others. That is why I will play Ash-Bhuvi-Pandya and pick 2 out of Shami, Umesh, Ishant (form, fitness etc). Link to comment
Ankit_sharma03
Ashwin Have to play a wkt taking spinner now he can fail but he shud be our 1st choice and obv he is a better choice kapedbus 1 Link to comment

He is not the same dart thrower which you saw him earlier. He has changed his style of bowling for while now. He turns the ball unlike before. Link to comment

Surely this shud be checked in warmup games Even if their bowling is found at par, ashwin still is ahead with his batting Link to comment
renjith
kuldeep is a better choice than ashwin and jadeja. but ashwin will be selected for his batting. if we pick ashwin, pandya and ishant in the eleven, our bowling will be too weak. Link to comment

For that we have Pandya who is there to balance. We are looking to win the match and for that we need bowler who will take more wickets and give least runs, and Jadeja has done that before in South Africa. Link to comment
SK_IH
Both Jadeja and Ashwin are in same boat, both unproven overseas ,both can be liability but I guess team management will go with Ashwin but if Ashwin is as innocuous as he was in Joburg he should be duly dropped Link to comment
Straight Drive
Still undecided on this. Link to comment

Absolutely agree. I don’t trust Pandya as he is a mediocre bowler and not sure what to expect from his batting. But if he can provide some support with bat and ball, then makes a decent selection, but picking Ashwin just because he can bat is useless because now we are forgetting that the guy’s prime job is to help the team earn some wickets and not bat only. If we can’t depend on him to take couple of wickets every inning or more then no use of playing him. No one is expecting fifers but playing Pandya-Ashwin-Ishant together along with Umesh makes it a shyty bowlinng attack and team. Link to comment
Vk1
My pick would be ashwin. Jadeja prospers on slow low kind of pitches. SAfrican pitches will probably help Ashwin more than Jadeja. Batting against the fastmen is a bonus. Link to comment
fineleg
LOL @ Tics trying to big up Jadeja as though he is a far better than Ash bowling option overseas. Both are either unproven or havent been successful commodities in Test tours like SA, Eng, NZ, gotta try one (most likely Ash) and see how it goes. Jadeja has taken a 6fer in South Africa which included wickets of Smith, Amla, Kallis, De villers. sandeep 1 Link to comment
flat_wicket_bully
Depends on how we want to use our spinner. if we want attacking spinner then Kuldeep will be my choice but as a defensive one i will take Jadeja. Ashwin is not the same bowler he was before he had sports hernia and today we say how poor he is in the field Link to comment
wanted_desi
I will pick up Ashwin for start, and he if doesn't do perform in first 2 matches, i would bring Kuldeep for third test match. Link to comment

Well we are going to play 5 batsman + pandya ...batting will be important in case of ashwin n jadeja N how has ashwin become a bad bowler.........the guy played so many test with sports hernia which impacted his perfomance a lot and we started seeing jadeja as better Link to comment

Pandya is there to balance the team, but if he can not add any runs or bowl and support the bowlers, then I rather play extra spinner and make Jadeja and Ashwin play from 2nd test onwards. We can not continue to pick Pandya overseas just for balancing if he is not scoring or taking wickets. Yes, we can't expect to have our support bowler take fifers, but he should be doing enough to bowl decent and chip in with wickets here and there and add some runs to make his case. Pandya's selection after first test will be very critical. Let's see how he does. If it works, it will be brilliant. Link to comment
