Well said Kohli. These BCCI folks should realize that players are not machines and they do need rest as well. I still cant believe we are playing Srilanka again and just 2 days after the conclusion of the series we are flying to SA. Pathetic planning.

I say any player who will be test squad for sa should not be included in ANY games of white ball cricket v Sri Lanka ! None .

Instead of complaning to media, had they said this to the board they would have done something for them. But captain is more active in politics and removing coaches.

In-fact I say rest key players (incl Kohli) from the remaining 2 tests as well. We have enough backups to form a decent test team which can handle SriLanka.

One thing we have learned from Dhoni's and now Kohli's reign is in Indian setup Captain can remove player, selector, coach, commentators and maybe even umpires.

Fair points, but its not just about rest.  Its about preparation.

Yes this is NOT only about resting them but preparing adequately with going ahead of time to SA and having more preparatory camps (Kohli mentioned wanting prep camps) and more warmup matches. Without preparing adequately, BCCI wants the team to show up and start playing Tests in SA, ENG, Aus/NZ ...

He is right but on the other side.......he can choose to take rest in between many series and so many other players to and that gives many youngsters a chance. India has a very good pool of players and if these players choose to rest in between that will only be good for our cricket.

 

Could have taken rest in WI series even SL odi series......all these meaningless t20 series

That's what i am saying, all of the test team can go to South Africa in middle of December (3 Weeks before First Test Match), that way they can easily have 3 practice games. 

 

That will give them 9 Days rest between last test match and going to South Africa. 

 

I do agree that Lanka series was a waste of time and there was no need for it.

The team for LOIs has to be total second string. As KT says no test players should be in the squad. bCCI are brainless floggers don't care about performance only money. But yes fault lies with VK and Shatri too, unless they are not consulted when  series are arranged

The question is not of who has how much free time during the year. The question is about preparation for a foreign tour. A series against hapless Lankans where they get stronger but you don’t. Or going to SA a month in advance and preparing for the conditions. I am last guy to defend Kohli. But the issue he is raising here is of scheduling.

Guys prep means warmup and prep camps in sa. Not rest. If he ment rest he would have said rest.

We have one warm-up game in RSA

 

If the idiots running BCCI had any sense, they would send our Test squad regulars to RSA latest by the second week of December. Playing a few top tier club teams in RSA would be much better than playing against Lanka. 

 

Not that it will happen, but we should just play our reserves led by Dhoni against Lanka in the LOI series'. A squad comprising of Pandey, Jadhav, Iyer, Dhoni, Karun Nair, Samson, Axar, Karn Sharma, Chahal, Bumrah, Aaron, Siraj and a few others should honestly be enough to beat Lanka. Test the bench strength.

That's always been the case. In 2010, we practically used the first test as a warm up match. We won the 2nd test at Durban, and had to settle for a draw because of Dhoni and Kallis.
