Backup keeper for SA/other away tours?

Who will be our backup keeper batsmen for overseas tour. I doubt Saha will perform overseas. We need to have a backup keeper in handy. So who would it be? Parthiv again?

I would rather have a Mannequin standing than have Parhiv keeping. Should try some youngsters.

Playing couple of tests as a backup in away matches in 2018 is not a bad idea. Must try Samon,Pant or Kishan. They will only learn from it.

Samson needs to keep wickets for a full FC season before you start advocating him for test 'keeper.   I'm a big believer in Samson's batting abilities.  I think he may even be slightly better than Shreyas Iyer as a top order ODI bat.   But he has a lot to prove with the gloves before we start anointing him a contender for test 'keeper.

Yes, he doesn't keep regularly in Ranji for Kerala. Did only in some matches this season.

And hence automatic No. He can play as a batsman in future but not as a keeper until he keeps full time in Ranji.

Yes. Keeper has to be really good with keeping first before batting.

Who would you have preferred as Reserve wicket keeper for SA Test tour?

(PP has been selected, but we know he is a glorified goalkeeper. Battingwise he is good).

Reserve keeper for an away tour is an important selection, coz of any last minute needs to cover the main wk.

 

Who would you have gone with as Reserve wicket keeper for SA Test tour?

Karthik would have been an option, he's clearly the Dhoni backup for ODIs, no reason why he couldn't do it in tests - I think he's at least as good as Pappu with gloves and bat.

Ok so essentially we are still only at PP and him since last 10-12 yrs. I also would suggest only these two options (for away tour since they have proved batting in the past). But kinda interesting in last 10-12 years, no one other than these two has emerged strongy as backup in Tests to MSD and Saha (now).

He has done ok as opening batsman in Eng and SA too? Right?

Is there really no other intl class backup option though from our domestics? (For Tests)

Thats an eye opener to focus on this development aspect in domestics too.

Actually he was one of the better batsman both in England and SA.  If only his keeping were upto mark i would have him over Saha in Tests as KKD is a genuine batsman.

Thats an eye opener to focus on this development aspect in domestics too.

There is Pant who averages 58 at a SR of 101 in first class cricket. There's Samson who has been in great form this season with the bat although he hasn't been keeping apparently. There is Sheldon Jackson who averages nearly 50 in first class cricket. I refuse to believe goal keeper PaPa who has already cost us a series in AUS is a better back up option than all of these guys.

Pant can't even get in the T20 team where there standards are very low!!!
