Trichromatic
So these guys (Kohli, Dhawan, Rohit) score 300 runs in first inning and then give away 100+ free runs by dropping catches, leaving their effective value to just 200 runs. Against better teams, this goes down further ultimately costing us matches and series. This is probably worst fielding unit India is playing in last 20-30 years. Shunya
Seems like captain is leading from the front in this aspect as well. Bimaari fel rahi hai sab logo mein. Everyone seems out of sorts behind the stumps including the keeper. Link to comment

This is not a poor Fielding unit but poor slip catching because slip catching is unlike Fielding anywhere as well. It is a specialist's job. We don't have any specialist slip catcher in it. adi B
Ground fielding is far better than what it was before but slip fielding has gone to dogs!! Sgattick10 1 Link to comment
rkt.india
Slip catching is a specialist position like short leg, silly point. You need specially trained fielders there. I was watching morning show and VVS told that Bob Simpson was the one who worked with him and Dravid in 1998 and that helped become very good in slips. These guys also need a Fielding coach like Simpson to work on them but alas we Sridhar. Link to comment
Gollum
Not just India's worst this is the worst catching unit from any nation since the inception of cricket. BCCI paid chamchas keep on hyping our fielding as world class but hey why let facts get in the way, we all know what happened to Kumble only because he asked the boys to take 50 catches daily during drills. I think even our women's team have better catchers than this bunch of overhyped donkeys, Veda Krishnamurthy will wipe the floor with this unit as far as catching is concerned. In test cricket fielding=99.99% catching and 0.01% ground fielding. Most of the fans go wild when we stop a boundary and save a run but every time we drop a catch we may end up costing up to 300 runs !!!! My dad is a die hard cricket fan who has been following cricket since 1969 Bill Lawry team's visit to India. Till date he keeps on moaning about our abysmal catching those days, especially under Pataudi/Wadekar reign which cost us many wins. Yesterday he said that this team beats that team hands down in the 'sucking at catching' department and that is something !!!! True cricket fans like us are losing patience with this pathetic standard while Shastri and Sridhar are laughing their way to the bank. Edited December 4, 2017 by Gollum Link to comment

It's a specialist job that need special training and we do not have a any Fielding coach to work on their slip catching. Link to comment
Kohlifan
Slip catching is an art, which requires more mental fitness rather then physical fitness. It does need you to concentrate on each ball & expect that it will come to you. Link to comment
rkt.india
Not every good fielder will be good slip catcher. Vijay and Ashwin are two best slip catchers in this team but they are not good fielders in general. Kohli, Jaddu, Rohit, Rahane are good outfielders but not good in slips. Link to comment

bhakum20
Strange there isn't a 'dropped catches' section in cricket statistics, it should be one of the most important metrics. We have tons of meaningless stats like 4th highest 7th wicket partnership. Why the hell does that even matter?? Without stats, difficult to say whether it's the worst. Link to comment

bhakum20
Here's something I found: http://www.thecricketmonthly.com/story/1056115/tracking-the-misses India is definitely not the worst. Pakistan on the other hand.... Link to comment
Shunya
Well if the captain himself is leading the charts of dropped catches, it makes it difficult for others to take a stand and weed the problem out. This thing has been going on since more than a year now, surely they would have discussed about it. If they wished to get a specialist for slip catching, they could have easily got one. I feel overconfidence is the main reason of no improvement here. beetle 1 Link to comment

Trichromatic
Quote In the Wellington test in 2014 Ishant dropped McCullum when he was on 36 and later he scored 302 and saved the matchfor his team(although McCullum was also dropped on 9 by Kohli is this same innings). In the Auckland test in same series Ishant dropped a tough chance of McCullum on 46 later he scored 224. In the Sydney test 2011-12 Ishant dropped M.Clarke on 182 and he later scored notout 329. In 2011 Edgbaston test also Ishant dropped Cook I can't recognise the exact score but he later went on to score 294. Some generous players in the team. Link to comment
