May be you are not following Aiyar's history.. He is filled with hate against Modi. Check his artciles on NDTV.COM .. its almost always against Modi. I believe he meant what he said.. it just that he got caught with double meaning of 'neech'.. he meant 'low life'.. and BJP interpreted intentionally with 'lower class life'... .there is a difference.. 'Neech' is 'Keel' in tamil. it would have been a disaster if he used this root term in tamil as a derog he might have got lynched. 'keelthara patta' is a socialist marker term, not a derog. If used as derog the whole Dravidian community would have been against him. He could have got away with 'ezivana' that means low in morals..
