Indian State Elections 2018

Tragedy for Congress they can't even form Govt in Meghalya with 21 seats , BJP. with just 2 seats managed to keep them out

Thats flawed reasoning. BJP strategically weakened their campaign in Garo hills to allow the NPP a free run. There was always an under the table understanding between the NPP and the BJP. Both are allies in Manipur.

The 21 also included 2 Mukul Sangma seats. So it was more like 20 seats given scope of election in one seat.

UP very important for 2019. Shah-Modi will go to any extent to deny opposition a victory in 2019.

It's important, which is why they shouldn't have taken him.

Voter Turnout in Gorakhpur is less than 40%. Basically, if Amit Shah isn't incharge of election proceedings, BJP leaders just leave everything upto god. Adityanath has proven to be an utter amateur. Hopefully, he learnt his lesson to never take any election lightly.

Yogi was growing his stature... this is MODI/SHAH/RSS way of clipping the wings...

BJP will have a spectacular fall, when it happens and there will be no allies to help it...

In its zeal to bulldoze everybody, taking all the corrupt and Ram hating people in BJP, it’s will finally alienate its core RW supporters..

I think that RSS is grooming Yogi as future PM so why they want to clip his wings?? UP is the key for 2019 and BJP has given sanjivini to opposition by losing these seats

It’s initial euphoria... it’ll not be easy for BSP & SP to tie up for bigger election primarily because of Ego. Both will like to have the lions share.

It’s a known fact that BJP only thrives when the opposition is divided.

Also public votes differently in By Polls and in state & national polls.

BJP does needs kick in the back side though for being over confident...

I agree that by polls are different but then there is a say dubte  ko tinke kaa Sahara

Bjp gave that tinka to opposition

Also if there is one leader that has future

Its Akhilesh , he is captain cool.He is most probably eyeing pm post with cm ship to mayawati

Also BJP needs to groom pm for 2029 as modi will be close to 80 Adiytanath will be they bet on

The problem with opposition is even if they come together, there are many PM aspirants... you think Maya or even Congress will agree for Akhilesh as PM?

Their PM will be a compromise candidate acceptable to everybody but they won’t declare before elections fearing him vs Modi...

If no visible PM candidate public will vote for Modi...

The way Congress is losing in straight fights against BJP it depends how they perform in Gujarat , MP , Rajasthan.if they manage to defeat BJP badly then will have upper hand but if they loose then regional parties will sideline Congress

Personally I think this will be repeat of 89

And the alliance will not last more than 2 years

My guess is there won’t be only one alliance. There will be region wise alliance with upper hand of the party strong in that region. Then there will be atleast 2 different alliance.

Remember Pawar, TRS, AIMM etc will have a separate alliance which will cut votes of the other one...

That's rubbish. BJP lost the by-poll elections due to its lack of core votes. In a low turnout elections, it's the core supporters who go out to vote. And BJP simply does not have enough numbers to beat caste list parties like BSP, SP who have much larger  core votebank.

Therefore, BJP needs a higher turnout, new voters, youth and all this is hugely influenced by Modi.

Agree with everything but sp, bsp will tie up because they already know what happens when they fight alone

Have a feeling it is kind of a conspiracy by Amit Shah...big Modi fan but don’t trust Shah even though he has done a commendable job so far. Feel this is done to put Yogi in his place and halt is momentum a little...Yogi is growing in stature by day even exceeding Modis popularity in some quarters.

I think @Singh bling has posted something similar already...kind of agree

Just like Cauvery management board, BJP just need to back off and not say anything much on the issue and continue to polerise and the north and support the jd(S) under the table where need be. The bigger issue for the Congress within is Parameshwara wanting Siddu to fail so he can be congress number 1 within the state.

I am going to wait for the RS polls this friday. Lets see if Gowda pulls his support from the BBMP like he has threatened if the Cong use Jd(s) rebels to get the third seat

The BJP as well, need to keep the BSY and Eshwarappa factions from each others throats. Karnataka will be won by a party who manage their factionalism and ticket distribution well.

Swamy is increasingly going (although political trolling his raison detre, so nothing new for him) Arun Shourie Route. His problem is that he has enemies everywhere so once Namo kicks him to the curb, he will have nowhere left.

Siddaramaiah doesn't trust his own party men on winning in Chamundeshwari, is egging for 2nd ticket in Badami. But when will Dhoni come down to bat in Karnataka?

What is going on in WB?  >30% of panchayat poll seats are uncontested in latest elections!

In one district (forgot the name) it is about 88% vacant poll seats. This is beyond shameful & not even a word anywhere in the media.

Wonder what happened to NOTA? Isn't that compulsory, and thus how was it uncontested?
