Impressive from BJP in spite of the final tally. Now please win Karnataka, sick and tired of everyday violence here.

Coastal Karnataka (esp Uttara Kannada) is on fire the past fortnight or so. Mangaluru, Mysuru, Coorg, Shivamogga all have witnessed communal tensions (mostly one sided with Hindus bearing the brunt) in the past 6 months. SDPI/PFI with the tactic support of Congress behind this menace.

Yes, agree. BJP has no issue to fight against in Karnataka. The violence / law&order issue is only in the coastal belt which votes BJP. They can't raise the issue of corruption as eddy has spoilt it for BJP in that front, Bangalore/Mysore always vote for BJP.  Modi has some influence, but the novelty factor of 2014 is not there any more. BJP has regain the trust they had gained in North Karnataka, like it did in 2008/2009. Raise farmers issue and probably with some sops to offer to them, if voted to power. I think Lingayats will back BJP even with the simmering religion issue. Seems to be tough for BJP, Sidda's image itself is so disheartening for voters, might vote him out, that is the only trick. Rile up Sidda so much and voters might be even repulsed to even look at him.   With the split votes to KJP and another faction (Sriramulu) rejoining BJP, a united BJP will help, but still need to cut into votes of INC. Playing the Hindu card will not in Karnataka.  Image destroying Cong ministers should help them. In that front, BJP has not done much since 2014.

8 states to go..Can BJP better it's impressive 19 states (has to retain MP, Rajasthan, Chatthisgarh) and gain Karnataka/NE states. It might gain Nagaland/Tripur, but Mizoram and Meghalaya are tough for BJP.

Even MP and Rajasthan looks tough with caste politics coming into fore even here. Unless they promise something for everybody and unit Hindu vote by raising the Ram Temple issue, it can possible retain these states

The hypocrisy of progressives, they are the ones stoking the casteist  emotions, while they should be above all these social evils. Shows their agenda behind a congressi mindset. BJP should move more towards right to win the next elections, more like Yogis.

Exactly.

BJP is nowhere near as 'communal' as the congress. not even close. its the only party that believes in the nation state of india.

It think its clear from most election results that URBAN india is 100% with the BJP. but the rural areas, those are the real battlegrounds where congress maintains a stronghold.

Man they really learnt tricks of trade from East India company. Divide and rule. Hopefully Hindus are sensible especially in the north.

The article makes a good point on the relationship between hindutva and 'vikas'. The link between the two, while easily understood by wealthy and upper-middle class indians, is not as discernible to lower class indians. Reservations have been a vote winner for decades, but caste identity is so difficult to fight against. A politician can easily prove that the value of a caste identity exceeds that of a pan-indian or hindu identity. Rightfully so, the idea of a unified hindu voting base makes no sense if you're still poor.

I'm glad the congress and secularists are keeping the BJP honest. in many ways, 2019 will be a way of measuring india's desire to unite around the idea of a hindu nation.

2 issues are key for BJP heading into 2019:

1. Economic progress in Uttar pradesh. If Yogi's government produces results, or at the very least, the perception of results, then the link between vikas and hindutva is sold more easily. Much like the BJP sold itself as a strong alternative based on its track record in Gujarat.

2. AVOIDING CORRUPTION. this is key. Congress will try really hard to unearth some kind of scandal, and this would have disastrous consequences. Nothing kills a political party or candidate's image quicker than proof of corruption. BJP has to maintain its image very carefully. We're men of god, we're morally righteous, we want the best for you and india...here's how we'll do it. That should be the message, reiterated a million times.

Look at this pidi's sudden realization of casteism among indians. And the plug in the above article is..

"She feels that the situation has worsened under the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre; she says she has seen caste violence connected with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Hindutva being on the rise in Andhra Pradesh. While Gidla thinks a certain need for revolt has created the space for Dalit and OBC leaders such as Jignesh Mevani and Alpesh Thakor in electoral politics, she is unsure of how much they might be able to achieve."

The Britishers are at the divide and rule policy again...

Don't understand how shekar &rajdeep get away with such views repeatedly.. in a professional setup they would be fired long long back

Bunch of clowns who participate/moderate in Q and A sessions with bigwigs from every field & ask them stupid questions, then chest thump about being classy.

Rajdeep, clearly is a buffoon of the highest order who uses Twitter according to his whims and fancies. On one hand he questions caste based selections of the political parties and on the other hand blabbers about his Saraswat Brahmin origins & the legacy of his community in different fields. No wonder he was beaten up by NRIs.

Why are they like this?

Foot soldiers of Left and Congress . What do you expect? When the mantra to defeat BJP is divide on caste lines, even at the cost of being anti-national, these brainwashed students who believe in utopia will be used by these urban naxals.

Can BJP win in Chhattisgarh this time again?

In the Lok Sabha elections CG has been the most bankable state for BJP, winning 10 seats out of 11 in the 3 L.S. polls.
But in assembly elections, the margin between BJP & Congress seems to be decreasing; which was the case in 2008 & 2013 elections.
Also former C.M. Jogi has left Congress along with his son, so they'll be cutting votes definitely. That too the traditional votes of Congress like SC/ST's, tribals in rural areas.
Still lot of time is left for assembly elections, anything can happen. Congress suffered last time as whole leadership of state Congress was wiped by Naxalites last time around.

BJP's goose is cooked in Rajasthan. Although people have been calling it for more than a year now but watch Liberandus go nuts over the coming days.

Goose cooks every term in states like Rajasthan, Haryana, HP, UK etc. One of the main reasons BJP hasn't investigated Vadra Land Deals in Rajasthan etc.

BJP is not a pure RW party. It's unfortunate that India doesn't has a proper RW party...

A communal murder a day under Siddu regime. In Bidar a schoolgirl was raped and murdered because she refused to convert to Islam, in Bengaluru a landlord can't ask a Muslim tenant for rent after 6 months of non payment without threat of beheading, Muslims can smoke ganja and molest women in the streets but no one should raise a voice lest they get their innards explored by a screwdriver, Hindus should allow Muslims to put Islamic posters on temple walls warna awaaz uthaya toh 200+ cuts and bleeding till death. Seriously anyone who wants more of Congress rule in Karnataka, I hope your near and dear ones are the victims of such acts of violence.

India is the only country where the majority is afraid of the minority 24x7. Hum sab ke sab hijre hai.
