Keeping things simple in the test series against South Africa

shammi will be accurate and fast.

bhuvi - as far as i am concerned , he should not be played in the eleven unless the pitch and conditions help Swing bowlers as else he is a DEFENSIVE run stopping machine at best and not wicket taking.

Bumrah is wicket taking and fast and his Umesh and ISHANT's form is going to decide whether we get them out fast or not.

the strongest and the fittest out of these three is UMESH YADAV but IS he in form ..is his length perfect and is he bowling at his best?? if UMESH is in full form , he will play in the 11 and africans or anybody in the world cant face a 147 to 150K and he is probably capable to bowl the fastest of indians...

Ishant is bowling full and thats good news for india and he is trying to use his brains a lot ...thats good news.

if bumrah gets into test mode and bowls well ..i mean quick and fast he will play in the 11 for sure.

The biggest issue for Ishant is bowling too many wide of off-stump deliveries.

He rectified this in the 2nd test vs SL ... but was back to bowling his original lines in the 3rd test.

Bumrah should have played a couple of tests vs SL

Now, the management will not be sure if he has the stamina to bowl 20 overs a day at pace

BATSMEN

1.  They should look to leave most deliveries clearly outside the off-stump and leave all deliveries that are out of their reach.
2.  There is no point in defending high bouncing deliveries on or outside the off-stump. Unless an attacking shot is tried, just leave the delivery.
3.  Basically  .... leaving a lot of deliveries would be the key.
4.  Get set before trying adventurous shots.
5.  Cut down lofted shots.
6.  Basically, practice and try to avoid all the bad habits that creep in while playing LOIs.

All our batters know all this but it is easier said than done.  They need to specifically practice this in the little time left.

PACERS

1.  Target the top of off stump to top of 5th stump with most deliveries
2.  Punctuate this with surprise bouncers targeted at the back shoulder
3. Hit the deck hard unless trying to swing the ball  ..... and bowl at full pace
4. Don't try too many variation and be " boring " bowlers.

5. Basically, don't allow the batters to leave too many deliveries or give them width outside off or balls on pads.

I guess our bowlers should target the golden mean - neither focussing too much on accuracy nor bowling too fast, trying to achieve the balance between pace and accuracy would be the key to maintain pressure on the batsman. Point number 4 is very well said for the bowlers.

All 6 points are perfect for the batsmen.

One interesting thing we often notice is .....  pacers end up bowling some of their quickest spells when they try to bowl similar deliveries over and over again with full effort, without experimenting much.  Good rhythm helps them achieve this.     : )

A good example would be some of Md. Shami's spells in the 3rd test vs SL in SL.  He was bowling loads of 140 k to 147 k deliveries with accuracy, seam movement  and bounce and was lethal.

This maybe a good approach to adopt by us.

vijay, rahul and pujara are probably the most solid top 3 in test cricket now. unfortunately our captain has more trust in dhawan. dhawans inability to play the moving ball is our biggest concern along with rahanes out of form.

And batsman should take advantage of anything that comes on the pad and do not fall over/ maintain your head position while facing inswingers.

Minimise the chances of getting bowled/lbw unless it pitches on middle n leg and hits top of off stump.

As they say offense wins games and defense wins championships. It is better to be defensive when touring.

ye kon bola cricket men

The two great sides Aus n Wi, they never stepped on the field to draw the game ....it was oppositions

Cricket men to yahi bolte hai - attack is the best defense

WI and Aus won because they had the better teams. Not because they played offense or defense.

We have to play attacking cricket...both with bat and ball...playing defensive cricket won’t work in South Africa.

India’s best moments in South Africa were moments of aggression and attack.

Sachin-Azhar partnership

Sehwag debut 100

Srinath’s spell in 1996

Sreeshanth’s aggression in 2007 and 2011

Kohli’s knock in 2013

Kapil’s knock in 1992
