velu
Quote Cape Town: The Indian team may not encounter the kind of bounce they are expecting from the Newlands track during the first Test against South Africa on January 5 as the worst drought in many years has made it difficult for the groundsmen to prepare a pitch that suits the home team. According to a report, people have been asked not to use more than 87 litres of water each per day. Newlands has borehole-water supply but groundsman Evan Flint told ESPNcricinfo that things could get tricky. "With the pitch, we've been able to carry on watering it as usual every day with borehole water. But the outfield, we've only watered it twice a week so it's a little bit drier and maybe not as lush as we would like it. "The challenge is that we need to leave live grass on the wicket, thin grass, so that there is pace, but we want to make sure the ball doesn't grip and turn. Ideally, what we need is a little bit of rain in the morning and then sun in the afternoon and I don't know how many days we will get that for," Flint said. The curator is still hopeful that he can prepare a hard bouncy track. "Everybody is pretty clear on what they want. We have tweaked a few things in terms of trying to get fresh green grass and we are also working on getting the wicket hard, so we're rolling it, but we have to keep the grass alive at the same time," Flint said."It will help the bowlers out in the beginning but it's not going to be the Wanderers or Centurion." advantage india http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/21923640/newlands-trying-hard-provide-sa-pace-drought-conditions Link to comment
Trichromatic
Should get Jadeja in if there is low bounce and drier surface. Link to comment
Oldhere
I want bouncy, seaming pitches. With kookaburra and flat pitches, our bowlers will struggle. Hence need africans to take badla of spinning pitches by providing us seaming ones. Link to comment

Still alien testing conditions for us, so they would have earned if they get a win. Gollum, ThePhenomenal1 and The Dark Horse 1 2 Link to comment
Ankit_sharma03
Drier surface shud mean it cud become a contest btw umesh vs bhuvi Link to comment
sensible-indian
They are trying hard to get the pitch to not grip or turn that there is a good chance it could turn into a patta that helps no one. I hope it doesn't happen cos SA patta is India's worst nightmare. Especially with our batting lineup short on practice. However if they click on a patta, we could start our series with a confident boosting draw. Edited January 1, 2018 by sensible-indian Mosher and G_B_ 1 1 Link to comment

Bhuvi is better than Umesh anytime, any day. Umesh is inconsistent. He should be fighting with the other inconsistent bowler Ishant for the spot if anything. Bhuvi should be a sure starter ahead of both Ishant and Umesh. beetle 1 Link to comment

Umesh for whatever inconsistency has a wkt taking ability. With drier surfaces reverse comes in play and it has been a pattern with team mngmt they get in umesh for dry surfaces....it happ in WI also adi B and Mosher 2 Link to comment
adi B
Saf are also a top quality side on dry surface with inconsistent bounce.philander, rabada, morkel will be lethal on such surfaces . We need to play jadeja in place of ashwin and umesh in place of ishant if such pitches are made Link to comment

Yes it does but they usually have lush green outfield so it requires some work on the ball.cape town nowadays is quite flat .port Elizabeth and wanderers much result prone Link to comment

Bhuvi must play every test. Ahead of both Ishant and Umesh. Link to comment
Trichromatic
Patta would be nightmare for us. One good spell and we can fall short by 100-150 runs. Link to comment

Start series with a draw sounds great to me Link to comment

He is not inconsistent, he just lacks skill. Ishant is in better form over past 2 years. Link to comment
