India have played most of their games at home : Philander

Recommended Posts

"India have played most of their games at home so it'll be interesting to see how they go in South Africa. It's a total different ball game here. We're going to have to wait and see once they pass the first Test match," said Philander in a media interaction here.

Why don't ICC introduce a rule where teams are not allowed to play more than 60% of the matches home?

preferable balance would be 50% home 50% away, or impose a 60% max home matches rule.

Teams like India/Australia/South Africa if they play most of their matches home, they will win most comfortably.

Hence, most of the stats will be favoured towards the home teams, be it personal stats or national records.

We will play more than 80% of the games overseas in the next year. That's like Bangladesh cricket's entire history.

India play around 60% of their games overseas. We play equal no of games home and away with Aus, Eng, SA, NZ and very sparingly invite teams like Lanka, WI, Bangladesh...so more overseas tests for us. Check the stats of SRT, Dravid, Ganguly, all of them have played more away matches than home.

If we bat first tomorrow we will be all out by tea around the same time we will see threads on how we are overrated or we have crap batsman and how dhoni virat have destroyed india cricket

This is going to be a very dry pitch because of lack of water.

Good point raised. These guys played around 60% matches away from home compared to say English players who play 60% at home and boost their record

Yes. That’s when you will find out how strong India really is. But 80% that’s not a good balance. I think ICC look into a more balanced home and away ratio for teams, so we can get a clear idea of how good the teams are.

Playing away from home against the likes of Sri Lanka and thrashing them don’t give a clear picture. The 40% of the matches India played away from home includes mostly matches against Sri Lanka.

@Shamim.Miah I think you got confused because our scheduling is a bit weird. 2013-15 we played mostly overseas, then next 2 years mainly at home etc. This gives the wrong impression, next 18 months we tour SA, Eng, Aus and NZ for full fledged series, then many will wonder we play only overseas matches. No other cricket board schedules like this.

From 2013 to 2015 India toured SA,NZ,Eng Aus and SL. Only played WI at home.

Then in 2016 they toured WI.

So where are you getting this tour to SL as the only away tour?

That will be nice. Too taxing on the players to have 4 major overseas tours one after another.

Nothing wrong in what he says.. Good thing is that, there are competition for almost every position in the 11..and that will result in some gritty performances.

For India to do well, you need the openers to show the intent and Kohli to stand and deliver ..if Kohli and Pujara can do what they are capable, all we want our is Pace trio to find the African length and hoping the pitch and batsman error to do the rest.

Makes sense now. Some tough times ahead of India coming. Those tours not going to be so easy. We will get to find out how strong India truly are. Batting might be heavily tested, I think Indian bowling has improved a lot.
