  1. 1. Is Hardik as valuable as Kapil Dev?

    • Yes, his contributions at least in limited overs cricket makes him invaluable
    • No, he has a LONG way to go to even elicit a comparison with Kapil Dev
    • Hardik Pandya is only hyped "bits and pieces" player. He can never be as valuable.

The mention of Kapil Paaji in the same line as Hardik Pandya might make some of you very angry but I just cannot help with the sentence after witnessing his innings today. The aggressive lower order batsman who can tear through the best of the bowlers and who can bowl fast.... is so very rare and will definitely elicit comparisons with the greatest of the games and Pandya has done that today.

Hardik Pandya has definitively silenced all the detractors by his innings today of any doubts they might have about his batting. People might say the conditions eased out, the edges flew in safe areas and whatever but his innings has cemented his need and usefulness for team India in all future tours.

It is all about his bowling that he needs to improve upon and he will certainly join the club of world class allrounder of the likes of Sobers/Big 4 (botham, hadlee, kapil, khan) and Kallis.

Pandya!!!  The joy you bring to the hearts of Indian fans is immense... simply immense!!!!! Hats off to you!

his bowling has a long, long way to go before it can reach Kapil's level. for the last 3-4 yrs of kapil's career, he was mostly a trundler who picked up a few wkts here and there, and even before that his bowling had declined. but for the first 10-11 yrs of his career, kapil was a genuine front-line bowler who could take 5-fers and win matches with the ball. particularly noteworthy is kapil's performance against the might Windies.

pandya seems to be more of a batting all-rounder (and a raw one). his bowling is not yet at the level of a kallis, and has much more to go before it can be compared with kapil. as far as his batting is concerned, he has done all that can be expected from him in the short career - both against SL on pitches that aid spin to some degree, and now against SA. his batting is shaping up very well.

big 4 were bowling allrounders, except khan in latter part of career. sobers and kallis are batting allrounders. I think that pandya is more oriented towards the kallis camp.

Pandya...Pandya hai !!!

Great knock today, but Kapil was in different league alltogether. Pandya has just started. Lets hope he changes the fortunes of this team who is still loosing.

not as much difference as you claim. this sa attack is marginally stronger than the one kapil played against.

Very nicely analyzed.  Sums it up precisely.

i know he took 2 wickets but he didn't look particularly threatening with the ball, military 130 kph, nothing on the ball on today's evidence

That was because he was tired a bit ,in the first innings he was bowling 135k and pitching on the perfect test match length.,had so many plays and misses against faf and abdv

Kapil was just too good both with the bat and ball in his prime. But he was an under achiever. With his talent, he could / should have averaged 40+ with the bat and ideally 25 with the ball

Pandya is an over achiever at this point And is likely to improve further if groomed properly

While Kapil saw himself as a bowling all-rounder, Pandya should try to be a batting one. As a bowler, he would be the 5th option with Ind fielding other bowling options in 2+2 or 3+1 combination

Pandya should focus more on his batting. He can  make the #6 or #7 position his own. As the bowler, he can be used to try something new like bowl short pitched stuff, be used as the stock bowler or even as the golden arm option to give a break through

Positive is that Ind now has a player who plays with a never say die attitude, has explosive batting skills and can bowl quick. Even if he was military medium like Robin Singh, he would be a good addition to the side as an overall package but his ability to bowl quick adds another dimension to his selection and hence the comparison with Kapil

Very exciting prospect for Ind indeed. If he is playing his 100th test, I would like to see him at 6,000 runs and 250 wkts, if not more
