Lessons from South Africa

1. The two top wicket-takers happen to be the slowest of the pace bowlers across both sides. Philander with 9 wickets and Bhuvneshwar with 6 showed the way.

2. Shastri at the helm is of no good. He had backed Raina in the past as a Test batsman and now with 2 FTBs selected (Dhawan and Rohit) ahead of 2 proper Test players who play well overseas (Rahul and Rahane), you can see why it is better for BCCI to flush money down the drain than pay this worthless pile of mass.

3. Rohit is an FTB

4. Dhawan is an FTB

5. Pujara is still unproven outside SC. His average outside SC in the last 4 years (2014-2018) is now 23.95 after 24 innings

6. Pandya critics can keep quiet for some time

7. Kohli is leagues behind Smith as a Test batsman

Steven Smith beats the hell out of Virat Kohli in 6 out of 8 countries that they have both played in. In the only 2 countries where Kohli's average is higher, it is only higher by 2 - 3 runs.

Don't make idiotic "25 saal ka hisaab" type advertisements they will just backfire spectacularly. Still seeing those in between a big collapse makes you laugh.

Star got its lesson from "Angrezo ki pungi"  debacle and they toned it down a little bit but Sony was so hyper after winning the TV rights they went in and just did the most stupid thing ever. You knew the moment you saw it the first time that this is not going to end well at all

Many years ago, as a train pulled into Pietermaritzberg railway station, a certain lawyer of Indian descent was thrown off the first class carriage inspite of having the necessary ticket. Apparently, the TC said that 'coolies' weren't allowed in first clas carriages and other passengers shouldn't have to suffer the ignominy of travelling with a 'coolie'. The lawyer collected his luggage, and on further consideration decided that he had to go back to his home country. He realized his own hard ships were superficial. On returning to his country he traveled the entire span of the nation in third class. The rest is history.

No bigger lesson/realization has an Indian had from his experience in South Africa.

What the numbers do not tell is how many times Smith has come in to bat with early wicket loss and scored big. He is the glue that holds his team together. If you take Smith out of the Aussie team they would fall apart but the same cannot be said of Kohli. India did just fine without him in series decider against Aussies.
