India vs South Africa - 2nd Test match thread - 13th to 17th January 2018 - #IsBaarAfricaPeWaar

Recommended Posts

After intriguing first test at picturesque Cape Town, the top 2 ranked team will lock horns again in Centurion, a suburb in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Team India looked out of depth in batting and lack of match practice was evident, but rest assured they will be more prepared this time around. Please join the discussions and banters in ICF as it will be a fascinating test.

Also from a south african perspective , there are a few players playing at their home ground such as ABDV , Morkel,  MArkram,  Du Plessis , and NGIDI if he plays

they will also look to target the replacement batsmen that INDIA brings in.

should make for a great match.

im itching for it to start already

He got the XI bang on before the first Test. Feeling sad for Rahane. Kept in the ODI squad as a useful idiot but now being kept out of the Test XI overseas. This is what happens when two clowns are running the show.

So we have 3 openers now. Pappu, Rahul and Vijay. Which 2 opens?

If Boria's team is true...then below will be my line up:

Patel
Vijay
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rohit
Pandya
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Umesh
Shami

I don't mind Parthiv as a batsman but as a keeper no way. You drop 2 or 3 catches or missed stumping chances that's like getting a duck.

Right

Saha took 10 catches in the first test which ICF over look,Wicketkeeper job is more important because Last 5,innings at Centurion, team bats first win tests.

If parthiv drops 3 catches, SOA surely hits 555 plus if bats first.

India must need to Removes AMLA,ABDV & MARKRAM cheaply.

Did you know?

Southafrica wins 17 out of 22 tests here,3 were draw vs  England while once each ENG and AuS win, so far NOT A SINGLE SUB CONTINENT TEAM or NZ/WI and others ever win at Centurion.

- Hashim Amla has scored 1202 runs in Centurion at 80.13 while AB de Villiers's 1157 runs have come at 60.89. On the other hand, Faf du Plessis and Dean Elgar averages only 33.60 and 14.00 respectively from their four and three Tests at Centurion.

- Spinners average 47.88 from 22 Tests in Centurion and the numbers go higher for the visiting spinners - 52.85 - both the poorest among the five major Test venues in South Africa.

- Mohammed Shami needs one more wicket to become the seventh Indian pacer to reach the milestone of 100 wickets. If he gets there in his next Test (29th), he will be the third fastest among the seven, after Kapil Dev (25) and Irfan Pathan (28).

- The last five first-innings scores in Cenurion reads 409, 397, 552, 475 and 481, and the sides posting those went on to win the respective Tests.

What they said:

"One must not get surprised by the bounce here. There are other pitches that bounce around the world as well. But here bounce can be steep and it can be quite steep from length. Those are things you have to mentally tune yourself to get over and accept that this is going to be the major part of batting in South Africa."

- Virat Kohli believes the experience of Cape Town will help India put up a better batting show in Centurion

"I expect another huge performance from them. They are a remarkably strong team and for us, it's making sure that we don't take a step back and rely on a 1-0 lead. If you do that against a strong team like India, they'll pounce on us."

- Faf du Plessis expects a strong response from the No.1 Test side.

Austin,

450 runs wicket so BCCI wants to saves Pujara from Red cherry early on, Good idea for next 7 tests (2 in SOA) +5 in England.

If  Virushqa winning toss, we will bats first.

At this point Cricinfo might as well hire a monkey to pick 11 random names out of hat to write the 11 probable indian players portion of their preview. That has much of a chance of correctly predicting the 11 as any expert.

Kohli on Rahane

It’s funny how things change in a matter of weeks, or just about five days. Before the first Test no-one thought that he should be in the eleven and now suddenly people are looking at the other option,” he said, “For us as a team, it’s all about finding the right balance. If players fit in in the kind of balance we want to go in with as a side, then they will fit in. We certainly don’t go on opinions that are created outside, and talk of the town and all those sort of things.”

Hahaha. Hahane ka band baj Gaya lol. His mentor has finished his career.

Parthiv and KL is good choice. But expecting the keeper to drop some catches.

Maybe just maybe Rahane has been piss poor in the nets. That and his form hasn't been good, which is the reason he is being sidelined.

They are keeping Rahane afresh for odis, thats where team (shastri+kohli) require his presence along with cool and youngsta beauty karthik.

How fresh do they want him to be. Players must be very unfit or may e they make excuse to not play him

I would stick with Saha. Both him and Parthiv are on par with the bat but Saha is the daddy with the gloves.

Pappu is no Gilchrist with the bat. He’s a tried and tested failure who made his debut over 10 years ago but failed to cement his spot.

Pappu is good with bat definetly better than saha. But he is a poor keeper.

Parthiv also has nothing to lose if selected. Could only justify his selection if he opened thus allowing Rahane to play. On balance you have to stick with Saha for his keeping.

Lol no he's not, they both are failures with the bat. Neither of them will guarantee the team with runs from their bat but Saha has an edge since he can be guaranteed upon to perform with the gloves. Pappu is poor with both bat and gloves.

Problem is Rahul will get only one chance to prove his worth while the Friends brigade will get unlimited chances.

One chance or no chance we do not know till 1.33 pm.well panthetic batting by Indians at Capetown but RS batted 130 balls partnership with CP so he might make it again
