India's batting looks very shaky

Openers look out of sorts. KL Rahul still hasnt established himself yet and largely inconsistent. M Vijay looks like he is past it. Struggling to score big after starts. I reckon this is the end of the road for him and wont get any better as he is quite old.

Dhawan and Pujara have big question marks over their ability outside sub continent.

Rahane has lost form and regressed a lot and looks like a shadow of the batsmen he was when India last toured SA and Aus.

Less said about Rohit the better. He is not test material, let's just put it that way and will never make it as a test batsmen even if you give him a million chances.

Only Kohli looks somewhat reliable but as a unit, I wouldnt trust these guys to chase even 150 on this track.

Some serious rebuilding has to be done in years to come. India's batting has regressed and has got worse since last overseas tours despite a lot of promise(Vijay, Kohli, Rahane all averaged 50-60 in previous tours) but it has gone all downhill.

The selectors, management, captain, coach all have to take collective blame for letting this happen.

They have not let Rahul settled yet,. How can one establish himself if has not been given the chance to do that by dropping for hack Dhawan.

Yeah, whoever plays needs more than 1 match to succeed.

1st match was practice match for Dhawan and now it's practice match for Rahul.

Captain isn't letting Pujara settle either. Constantly pressurizing him to try different things and change his approach.

this south africa tour was going to be tough anyways. a new team going outside asia for the first time will have to make some internal changes before they settle down.maybe this is why you play practice matches in the first place!!!!

Ishant 80 tests

Kohli 65 tests

Pujara 56 tests

Ashwin 57 tests

Vijay 55 tests

Rahane 43 tests

Shami 29 tests

This team has vastly experienced. When are they going to be old? During next overseas cycle, when everyone has played 75-100 tests and some of them closing in for retirement?

Most of these players are close to 37-33 and this is their prime phase.

Yeah this is not a young or new team. If they dont deliver now, they will never be able to do it.

I think the big problem is investing in a small group of players and hoping they will do good instead of giving chances to others. Rohit, Dhawan, Pujara never looked like they could score outside SC but they persisted with them because of their performance at home. The idiot selectors, the cheerleader coach and "aggressive" captain put their emotions and gut feel over logic and rationality and hence have only themselves to blame.

This is one of the poorest batting line ups taken on tour in at least the last decade. Its so fragile & no one player inspires confidence across all conditions. Difficult to see how they can score 300+, 250 appears to be the maximum.

Bowling looks better than on previous tours but unless there are runs on the board its going to be impossible to win any games.

how many times have these guys played overseas? barring ishant, most of them have played overseas only during 2013-2014.

Bhai this is the peak phase of most of our players. Next tour 6-7 of these guys will be close to retirement.
