Lead fast bowler

India needs to groom a bowler who can lead the attack and others follow suit. Kapil, Srinath later Zaheer. They all led the attack. Rightnow there is no leader for the pack. Chopping and changing randomly leads to bowlers not operating as unit.  Bhuvaneswar appeared to be the closest to lead the attack as he is only one who shows reasonable consistency.  He has upped his pace. Added a bit more variation. Sadly an unfit Shami, inexperienced Bumrah and Ishant who wants to retires as support bowler is all we have now. This is where dropping of Bhuvi becomes a huge factor. He should be permanent. With his batting skills India could have even posted more runs in the first innings. If KOhli wants to win overseas he needs a main bowler around whom others should thrive. Bhuvi is the only option we have. He is no  Zaheer khan. But he should be trusted with responsbility of helping other fast bowlers feed of each other.

Shami has all ingredients to be a lead Pacers but he has started bowling like Yadav now as he is dropped. You don't know which side of the bed he has woken up.

Shami always has iffy fitness. He can never be like Zak was. Zak once bowled 13 overs in a row with same intensity in NZ. County cricket changed him a lot.

Zak is the most overrated bowler we had in test.

Come on man. He won us tests in England, SA. NZ. Even when we had issue against BD he rolled them over.  His dismissal of Graeme smith was always a sight to watch. He also guided lot of guys as "bowling captain". Significant bowler for India in the mid 2000s.  In 2010 he world no.3 fast bowler.

He is a bigger proven test match winner bar Ishant in the current line up of fast bowlers we have.

As a unit this fast bowling attack is the best we ever had,but so far none of them have shown the capacity to produce match winning spells out of nowhere.

I didn't say he was not good. He was good in patches but highly overrated because he always lacked the stamina to sustain intensity and at times, couldn't rise to the occasion. He was great by Indian standards.

That was during chappel days. Prior to his county stint. He became a change bowler since then. I always had faith in him to provide breakthrough

Zak was overrated fast bowler in testmatches, hype was created coz of has success vs gream smith, zak averages 47 vs  pak, 36 vs ssa, 38 vs SL and 36 vs Australia and all these teams had some of the best testmatch batters in his  era, current bowling attack is the best we have, anyone can lead it except ishant sharma,  umesh was the leader from sa 2015 to Aus 2017, its bhuvis turn now.

I agree with OP. There has to be leader of bowling attack. Posted the same on the performance of bowlers thread as well. Previous century we had the leaders of bowling attack. Actually this lot is better skill wise than previous one as a whole unit, but they either lose form or get injured. Kohlis tactics of dropping highest wicket taker is neither allowing to build a strong bowling unit. Like we had a concept of Fab 4  in batting why can't we have it in bowling. Nobody dropped Ganguly because he could not play on leg side, nobody criticized David for being rock in Tests. Here Chet gets crucified for playing slow, Bhuvi gets dropped after picking most wickets. How will the core team build. The strategy in itself is missing. It is not even horses for courses approach, is it? It's like he feels to do some change he does it. Some weird justification is given. Such logic was not there when we had Fab4 unless for an exception. Seems madness as far as team strategy is considered. There is absolutely no accountability for losses due to ridiculous decision making.

i am only talking about after county stint. he had developed as a bowler but he had not improved his fitness to international standards.
