These '5 together' has unarguably been the best top order India have ever produced.Even the last 2 in the group, Sehwag & Saurav were brilliant in their own. Sehwag though was moderate in ENG,NZL &SAF(a lot of blame has to go to team management for this because it was not lack of talent or technique that caused such record) was literally a beast in other countries.Ganguly avg:ed almost 35+ in AUS,ENG,SAF,WI. In NZL where he avg:ed 27+, it has a lot to do with that 2002 beastly bowling conditions. This despite being the captain of the team .And the FAB 5 faced much superior bowling attacks in general. When compared to these 5, the current group are pedestrians. Link to comment
Gollum
Kohli doesn't want this top/middle order to realize its full potential. Link to comment
diga
Ganguly's support was essential in the Fab-4 including Kumble delivering. Here the captain's selection for last 12 months has been rather poor. Link to comment
Trichromatic
We had players of each conditions England - SRT, Dravid, Ganguly SA - SRT, Laxman Aus - Sehwag, SRT, Laxman, Dravid (only 1 series) NZ - Gambhir, SRT, Dravid Even from current team there is mix bag England - Vijay, Rahane Aus - Vijay, Rahane, Kohli, potentially Rahul SA - Kohli, Rahane and Chepu (till previous series) NZ - Rahane, Kohli, Dhawan And likes of Kohli and Rahul are due more performances in some other countries. But this line up can't maximise this potential on current set up. philcric, Gollum and Laaloo 3 Link to comment
goose
Agree with OP. What really disappoints is our batsmen's failure to try something different. Only Pandya did that. Same old defensive pokes at waist high balls that should be cross batted instead a la Sehwag Link to comment
