So in last few years, absolutely atrocious players have got a chance in the playing 11 while deserving players sat out.

 

The cricteria for selection has become the good books of captain or closeness to captain and not performance.

 

This isnt a captain"s 11 its Indian ffs.

One thing is clear that Rohit Sharma has no future in red ball cricket. Just focus on ODIs FFS. The way Prithvi Shaw is batting, he should be selected in test squad for England.

That is why attending captain's reception becomes more important that reaching SA for aclimatization.

I don't blame the players when even the bcci seems scared to enforce it.

Every captain will have their preference for types of players. 

As long as they are able to justify the selections, it's something you're going to have to accept.

Bcci needs to step and give the captain less power. Imo selectors Should pick the squad, coach picks the playing 11 and captains only worry about on field tactics. 

 

Next step is to pick competent coaches and selectors who can be held accountable. 

 

Chappels main problem was he wanted too much power, but in respons to that its gone the opposite way and the coach is just their to make the captain feel good.

Look at ICF, people support players based on their state or IPL team or some reason that has nothing to do with their ability or what is good for the team. Team India and our cricket establishment are no different, we have never selected the best 11 players and never will. Only hope is to follow the Hockey India route and outsource selections and coaching to foreigners, because unlike us they have some professional pride and none of the bias our guys exhibit.

Every Captain has had his favourites and to an extent its understandable . you will always have disagreement with one or two players picked in the team , normally a 50-50 call . Ganguly may have better insights to some bengal/east zone  players having played along with them , Dhoni similarly may have picked players from CSK ( he would have got the players into csk he rates highly ? ) . Then you have selectors pushing for players from their zone ..in this process its possible some players get less opportunity than others , Ashwin over Mishra , Raina over Uthappa/Jadhav (?) , Vinay kumar/Dinda over Pankaj singh(?) , Rohit Sharma over Manoj Thiwary ..This will always happen . What we are seeing with Virat is another level , it cant be just bias but probably a combination of being stupid as well . Hes dropped your top batsmen/bowler with complete hacks , its like Raina (or worse) replacing Dravid in your test side or dropping VVS to accommodate Yuvi ..Raina and Yuvi based on their ODI exploits may be did deserved a shot just like Dhawan and Rohit , but not at the cost of Rahane/KL/Pujara .
