Shastri - another ten days of practice here would have made a difference. Kohli contradicts him

Recommended Posts

After India conceded the Test series in South Africa, head coach Ravi Shastri has come out and said that the lack of practice cost the Indian team in the ongoing series.

"In hindsight, I would say another ten days of practice here would have made a difference. But that’s no excuse. The pitch we play on, it’s the same for both sides and I would rather focus on the 20 wickets we have taken. That has given us a chance in both test matches to win games. Yes our top order, if we can fire, it will be a good test match." Shastri said while addressing the media.

Shastri also said that they will not crib about the pitches dished out in the series as both the teams played on the same track, hence there is no point talking about the pitches.

He further added, the in future itineraries should be prepared keeping in mind few practice games which will ideal for any touring party.

Answering questions about team selections, Shastri defended the policy of constantly changing and chopping when he said that one has to go according to current form in overseas conditions and also the conditions present during the match.

Amidst all the criticisms, the Indian bowlers have managed to pick up 20 wickets in both the matches and this evoked praise from the coach as well.

Ravi Shastri defends Ajinkya Rahane's omission from first two Tests

"If Ajinkya (Rahane) had played the first Test and not done well, you would have asked me the same question about why Rohit hasn't played. Rohit played, he didn't do well, so you are asking me why Ajinkya didn't play," a defiant Shastri told reporters when queried about the selection policy."

"The same would have happened with the fast bowlers. So you have choices. The team management has discussed what is the best option. They stick by it and they go by it," Shastri said.

"Overseas, you go on current form, you go on conditions. You see which player can adapt to certain conditions quicker than the other," he added.

This guy played international cricket from 1980 to 1992. Then he started commentating in the mid 90s and talked about all these things for 20 years. Played first class, county cricket. Manager, Coach other credentials. Only now he realizes "we didn't have enough practice"?

Only now Kohli realises it and sends the message through his mouthpiece.

BCCI is to greatly be blamed for this fiasco, they cannot expect team to turn up in SA without any practice matches and expect them to win.

Bowling has kept them in both matches but batting has been shambolic and Shastri is right, Rahane would not have made any difference in the results.

Other than Kohli (one innings) and Pandya batting has been awful, you cannot expect to win matches with that kind  of batting performances.

On bowling they have let South Africa off the hook  twice in first innings of first test they have never let them score 330 plus and in second test second innings again they let South Africa off the hook after early two wickets. You need to keep the intensity on for full innings.

Shami and Ashwin two leading bowlers have let this team down also..

They have not been blown away in both tests like they had been in many overseas match in past where there was only one winner after first day.

How is he fraud, what has he done wrong, I don't understand this animosity against him. He is not hiding behind anything and is just speculating what ifs which he is allowed to do as a coach.
