So what did we gain from picking Parthiv Patel ahead of Rishab Pant?

But even if you think Pant is too young, is Parthiv patel really the 2nd best wicket keeper over the age of 25 in all of India? It just seems like a lazy selection by the selectors who probably didn't expect Saha to get injured which is why they had no back up keeper in the Squad(patel was in the reserves i believe.)

This is like that debacle when they picked Saha as a specialist batsman in a test match but this is worse because they had time to fix it before the 3rd test but didn't.

Nope.Parthiv was in the squad .

It was Karthick who was in the reserves.

To be honest every time watched pant bat in last 12 months been very disappointed with his technique . Lots of wild slogs across the line and awful dismissals

he has talent . But at moment looks technically very poor for international cricket at moment . He would have been eaten alive in these tests .

Is slogging across the line really sustainable against top bowlers at international level ?

We need to give him a chance in t20s ODIs then tests.Saha is good enough for 2 years.

Its more about glove work behind the stumps. Patel dropped 4 chances last test. According to match reports i have read they say pant is very good behind the stumps which the first thing you should look at when judging a wicketkeeper.

are you looking for a batsman or a keeper? dont think he will do worse than Parthiv in both departments. He is not your typical technical batsman, neither is Shaw who you are clamoring for.  Both are unorthodox batsmen and not technically the best.

Well people want me be to sheep and jump on pant bandwagon . But sorry gotta use my own eyes

keeping wise decent . Not much issues in this front , although have not seen him on rank turners

batting wise plays some seriously unglued shots . Big heaves across line , hand coming of bat etc at this moment in time would be walking wicket in tests imo

i repeats is whacking across line really sustainable at top level for long ?

can develop and improve . And may well

do . But right now in test team he would be joke pick

best to have a look in t 20 and take from there

icf goes on crazy bandwagon roll sometimes .

you have not even watched him much then. Shaw is a very flashy batsman too like Pant.

Shaw is not a slogger but a serious talent, he is one of the few batters who I have seen like Smith who can manipulate the delivery line n accordingly score where he wants to by use of his feet n hands, n that requires some serious talent, same this Sarfaraz does.

Watched him loads . Attacking does not mean unorthodox

shaw shots classical . Pant just slogs mainly , how will this go in more testing conditions ?

As for laloo and beetle flagging my post as a troll for giving my cricket opinions. Grow up . Just cos am sayjng pant right now is not ready for test crixket does not make me a troll . Have you seen him bat and when ? What about his batting makes you think will do well in these pitches v Sa . I seen fair bit of batting by him , very very loose and across line . Potential yet but no way ready for tests overseas

Absolutely. Amazing batsman and orthodox but just gun . Simple as that gun

Rishabh Pant is a glorified(by some fanboys) version of Suresh Raina. He is just a T20 flat track bully. If you are expecting him to come good in tests especially in overseas conditions, you are seriously deluded and know nothing about cricket. Having said that, PP is also not fit for test cricket. They should look to groom some other wicket keeper for tests.
