Hardik Pandya - A Passenger in the team

Recommended Posts

For this test he has just become one of India's most important bats .

When he gets into bat it's all about attacking and hitting , it doesn't matter about wicket , all about runs onboard for a total that India can bowl South Africa out on.

Different for forthcoming tests , at moment pretty poor bowling batting all-rounder

Pandya when he is playing playing with 4 additional fast bowlers is overkill, he needs to improve both his batting and bowling but he has to be preserved and if he does not improve after England series then he needs to be dropped. They should have played Ashwin this test but they are simply not trusting player to do well their main jobs.

Pandya should be groomed so it is good to see him in the 11. Already played an useful hand with a magnificent knock and bunch of wkts

When Pandya is playing, Ind should try to go in with 3 seamers + ideally 1 spinner. Pandya would serve as the 4th seamer and do the workhorse duties, serve as the golden arm bowler to break partnerships, etc

Intangibles include his do or die spirit and commitment on field

Building a team for test cricket is like long term portfolio management. It is hilarious to see people go about team selection as some kind of short term trading. When he gets an useful performance, we would see a thread stating why he should be playing. These funny exercises continue. Leave the talent that is being groomed alone. Give it some space to adjust to the learning curve

We have Bhuvi and Ashwin to bat like Bhuvi and Ashwin. And Pandya to bat like Pandya. Likes of Bhuvi would struggle to hit test 100s

Cmon, there is no need to bat like he did when we were 100 down for 5 and he comes and plays like an exotic dancer. He has to learn to play according to the situation.

What should be done with Hardik Pandya? Would selectors send him back to domestic cricket to improve batting or bowling? Right now he is ultra useless in both departments. Bhuvi/Ashwin are better all rounders than him.

I wanna call u a re@#$_ but m holding back, he saved us in the test before, n if u don't see him for what he is u don't get cricket .

Learning is a continuous process. With time he has the potential to get better .... The guy already has 1 100 and 2 50s in the 7 test innings he has played so far. Considering that we have specialist batsmen, if he can get big scores 1 every 3-4 innings, I would not want him to change anything

2 of those big scores came in FTs. In SA/Eng/Aus, I don't think he will be getting to score by playing like this. One a green Mumba, he will need to dig deeper and play out good balls.

I am more worried about his bowling on helpful pitch. He should step up there.

If the specialist batsmen are failing in these conditions, the responsibility of bailing Ind out is not on his shoulders .... As we know in the first test, he did well in tough conditions

He should have a defined role...is he a batsman whom we expect a 50 mimnumim every time or is he a frontline bowler where we expect 2-3 wickets from him? This X factor that will get a quick fire knock once in a while or golden arm that will break partnerships doesn’t have a long upside.

You can't shunt out a player like that especially a player with tremendous potential. The problem with his batting has been that he has come very low down the order and every time finds himself in a situation where the team has lost 6-7 wkts ,so he tries too many things so as to get quick runs and goes for unusual shots. He should be regularly played @6 to build up his confidence.

in bowling department ,he has done decently whenever given the chance to bowl
