I recently posted about my disappointment that the TV ads for the U-19 world cup featured five young players, but all of them were batsmen, in spite of the bowling squad filled with talent. This is why the image below made me really happy. Batsmen get the glory, but its the bowlers that really make or break a consistently winning team. The market economics of the IPL have already started incentivizing all-rounders. And now the bowlers. Young 14 year olds and their coaches everywhere will make sure that they are leaving no stone unturned in practising their bowling skills. Scores of tall athletic kids all over India with the slightest of bowling ability are going to get ample opportunities and motivation to pursue bowling. Which was really not the case in the past. Bowlers need to get a lot more love in cricket. Especially Indian cricket. The fact that Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti got bigger paydays than the budding batting stars Gill and Shaw - gotta love it. Even before these guys when they had been picked for 14crores, like someonenlike Yuvi, he was never that good of a player and was past his best in t20s. but what happens is when you dish out 14 crores, then teams are not left with much momeh to get those extra youngsters in the team. But, they gave up on Shubman Gill around 75 lakhs. Local Boy and Future Star, it would have been worth to take a 2 crore bet on him. He could give you 15 years, and become face of your franchise.
