I think it will indeed be the batting lineup with lot of depth. To have someone with batting ability of Harby in IPL as No. 9 is just awesome.

Deep doesn't mean strong. Most of them are questionable ATM in t20s. Dhoni, jaddu, watson, Bravo, Raina all have struggled.

Watson has done well for Thunders batting at 3 this season. Different conditions but surely the batting form is evident. Raina has a ton recently in SMA. Bravo is good enough batsman for the position he will bat at.

It will probably be along the lines you mentioned. However, I think both Vijay and Watto are slowing down, etc. My own pick would be: Vijay, Faf, Raina, Dhoni, Jadhav, Bravo, Santner, Jaddu, Karn, Thakur, Tahir for home pitches specially prepared for spinners.

With the number of spinners CSK has picked, I think the wickets will definitely be spin friendly.

Faf can open. And if they use him as opener then well they can pick Tahir by using some Indian all-rounder in middle order.

Agreed. Jaddu, Karn, Bhajji can all bowl and bat to varying degrees. I would rather have Faf open since he's more versatile IMO than Watto (who is no longer what he was).

Faf has the technique to survive the new ball. He has those safe ground shots piercing the fielders. Watto relies a lot on over the head hits. He was successful in this Big Bash batting for Thunders at No. 3. He bowled only in 2 matches this Big bash iirc. On Indian wickets he will be less effective if he could not in Big Bash. I would have Faf over Watto at this point of time. Faf also is a better fielder than him. I doubt Watson will play all matches like Bravo.

What I will choose:

Faf Du Plessis / Sam Billings

Murali Vijay

Suresh Raina

Shane Watson

Kedar Jadhav

MS Dhoni (c) (wk)

Dwayne Bravo

Harbhajan Singh / Karn Sharma

Ravindra Jadeja

Lungi Ngidi / Mark Wood / Mitchell Santner

Shardul Thakur

Looks like a good starting XI.

There is even the option of getting in Rayudu or Shorey at 4, and playing Wood/Ngidi instead of Thakur. Santner would be No.10 and Wood at 11.

Or open with Billings and play Faf at 4 if Watson doesn't show form

I agree, CSK does have a lot more bowling options this time around.
