bowl_out 2,324 Report post Posted January 30, 2018 http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/22262481/humiliating-ipl-auction-criticised-new-zealand-cricket-players-association Quote New Zealand has become the first country where administrators have dared to voice disapproval of the auction. Heath Mills, chief executive of the New Zealand Cricket Players Association, told the New Zealand Herald: "I think the whole system is archaic and deeply humiliating for the players, who are paraded like cattle for all the world to see." Mills was endorsing a tweet from Peter Clinton, a former chief executive of Wellington Cricket, who said: "The IPL Auction is such an undignified, cruel and unnecessary employment practice. Ridiculous that it exists today, belongs in the medieval ages." ... ... Mills' criticism centred upon the players' lack of control over their own destiny. Under the auction system, they are commodities, available to the highest bidder, and have no input as to where they play. "The players enter the auction not knowing where they are going, who their team-mates are going be, who's managing them, who the owners are -- no other sports league in the world engages players on that basis," he said. "We've seen some players play for five or six teams over the 10 years the league has been going. Coaches cannot build an affinity with players, they can't build a long-term culture. Players' associations around the world would like to see it change."
nevada 1,250 Report post Posted January 31, 2018 Besides that, I find headlines like "xyz was bought for 2 cr" cringeworthy. They are not animals or goods, how hard is it to say "xyz was picked"?

LordPrabhzy 1,373 Report post Posted January 31, 2018 This auction system is ridiculous. Teams cannot retain a core set of players to increase fan interaction. Id rather be a draft system or transfer system. 1 MCcricket reacted to this

beetle 14,363 Report post Posted February 6, 2018 I find that guy unnecessarily insulting to the players. There should be no second time bidding. It is humiliating to see players not being taken a second time. If people want them....just pay up the base price and announce.
MCcricket 1,344 Report post Posted February 8, 2018 IPL auction system currently is counter productive n self defeatist, teams n players keep changing at such a fast rate that fan base n loyalty is hard to build on as well as building a good team n strategy, also duds like Unadkunt going for 11 crores is ridiculous, also effects the grooming n nurturing n development of younger players, doesn't make sense also is not a value based system but a gamble presently n humiliating for some
