mancalledsting
Controversial topic but I have felt this about Rohit for a while (haven't run a statistical check), I don't think he has the technique to be an effective opener overseas against good quality seam attacks. He is overly defensive and saps momentum away from the rest of the lineup. He struggles with the moving ball (e.g. Amir in CT Final) when conditions suit and struggles to hit back of a length deliveries. Already in the game during the first over to More Morkel, two half volleys were bowled but because he's camping on back foot he didn't have the confidence to go on the front foot and punish the loose deliveries. I know its sad to think this because our middle order is really poor at the moment and our opening 3 are our main strength, but I think compared to other countries e.g. England, Rohit weakens the attacking potential of our top 3. As I type he hits a beautiful six...lol! Don't feel he does that often enough though...I hope he continues to prove me wrong today Edited February 1, 2018 by mancalledsting wanted_desi 1 Link to comment

mancalledsting
if you watch his innings today, it's the reason why he doesnt attack in ODIs overseas against good pace attacks because every time he does, he struggles. Today's dismissal was a horrible shot, trying to hit an outswinger to the leg side (so much technically wrong with that). Link to comment
sarcastic
@mancalledsting, I think we are getting the answer in this series. We already saw one complete innings by RGS. Let us wait for 5 more. mancalledsting 1 Link to comment

I have no personal love for him either, its just Indian ODI batting lineup is really unstable at the moment and we need all players to step up express bowling 1 Link to comment
Mosher
Pace and bounce doesn't trouble Rohit but just a hint of movement and he is a sitting duck. express bowling and maniac 1 1 Link to comment

Laaloo
Not sure yet but yeah he doesn't have many innings against a good pace attack. This series should be a defining point. mancalledsting 1 Link to comment

Nikhil_cric
Never felt comfortable with him opening. After Rahane's good show, I think we should open with Rahane. I think he can handle swing and survive and score. express bowling and mancalledsting 2 Link to comment
ThePhenomenal1
Like the above post says id open with rahane and at least he can get those singles, 2s and 4s rather than hit and miss rohit. But team will never drop rohit. express bowling and mancalledsting 2 Link to comment
Deleted_User_1
Against a good pace attack on a overseas pitch with some juice and under lights, you have to have some technique to see off the moving ball before you can launch an attack. He is not a technically competent batsman. mancalledsting and express bowling 2 Link to comment
CoverDrive
I think he should be fine as now Aus and Eng are flatter than India. It is about scoring 300+ for which we need him settled. Edited February 2, 2018 by CoverDrive mancalledsting 1 Link to comment
