Weeding out deadwoods. But How?

Looking at last 1 year's performance we could see why India is in this situation. Apart from a handful, we have many average performers. Karthik averages 61. But look at his strike rate. Same with Rahane/Dhoni. Jadhav/Pandya/Pandey all barely average. Rahul is not given a run. But when he is given he should grab it. No other way. If you demand selection they will throw this stat at your face.  Unless they end this farce of picking totally unfit, inconsistent ODI players India's chance in the world cup is bleak. Tough calls have to be made based on some kind of performance appraisal over a period. If they have no method in selection team then we will be going nowhere.

Don't think this team has any Deadwood. Only thing is to identify right players among plethora of options. You need match winners to make a champion team. Anything less than that, we don't need. Likes of Rahane, Karthik, are not match winners in LOIs. We need to deliberate over all the options for middle order and stick to players who can become match winners.

Not happening before 2019 WC. After that ofcourse we need to change our team and bring young talents.

TBH I dont see Rohit Sharma in the team as well post 2019 WC and we need to look in future.

Stats says Dhoni avgs 62 with a strike rate of 81 in last 1 year. Surely we have other bigger problems in the team than him?

In before Not out excuses coming :giggle:

forget about the notout excuse, that strike rate of 81 is downright pathetic, 81 in today's era is equivalent to a strike rate of 65 in the 90s, pathetic spineless batting by dhoni

What would you take rather? Avg of 27 with a strike rate of 114 (like Pandya) or avg 62 with Strike rate of 81 (Like Dhoni)?

Pandya is there to do a job. he will fail at times and succeeds at times.  If he wants, he too can remain not out and score at 80 SR and average 40-50. Like last game, he was going for his shots from the outset because that is what the situation demanded and he is in the team to score quickly though he got out to a screamer of a catch and that can happen.

Similarly Dhoni's job is different to Pandya's. All 11 players cant be dashers right? Look I am not defending Dhoni for his low strike rate but you need consolidators and avg of 62 testify that MS is not doing that bad in ODIs. Also strike rate of 81 is not that bad.  Babar Azam strike rate is 84 and they consider him ATG in Pakistan :cantstop:

Ill take both

Both offer something diff and both needs improvement, but none is a dead bad since both are contributing in some way.

Deadbats are basically karthik n rahane who is doing much and hasnt done much in past as well. Rahane can max be a backup openers

If we are thinking someone like pant will come n start performing consistently.......pretty less chances of that happening

N if u want just the strike rate then why is many having an issue with pandya ??

The team has only 2 issues 4 n 6 ....sought that out , neither pandya or dhoni wud pinch anyone ......Those 2 position will give breathing space to these 2

We should be looking for a replacement opener already.

His stats are the biggest 'lie' in world cricket at the moment. Based on stats alone he should be scoring 50s regularly, in this ODI series the guy has barely managed to make 20 RUNS!! Stats my foot!

Not like he was just drafted in all of a sudden, almost 2 months he's been in SA. A pet ape would have been acclimatized to the conditions by now, but apparently not the 'greatest batting talent' in the team! Failed in the tests, failing in the ODIs, if deadwood has to be epitomized by one name, then that is.........ROHIT SHARMA!!

consolidators at 6? we already have enough consolidators in top 5 and Pakistan is not our benchmark.

Dhoni's stats are so misleading, he will always remain not out and end up with SR around 85. What it shows and proves is he is batting for totals around 255.

These stats are so useless for number 5/6. All the good finishers should have minimum 100 SR.Dhoni like Rahane who is another useless addition are good for totals around 250 and not 350.

When your top three are averaging higher with better strike rates than your middle order then you have big freaking problems.

There is no wonder this team goes nowhere when top three fail.Add FTB Rohit to the mix we end up with just two batsmen who can play anywhere. It is miraculous that this team is still relevant.
