Said from day one . Joke people calling him all rounder for international cricket

his bowling is pathetic. . Shows how lucky we are to have pandya . Can click up to 90

we shoudl stop going about challengers for panday as Seam all rounder as can assure their are none . In fact panday is first since kapil Dev and people think might Be Ones better then panday lol

By the same account, have you watched him bat?

Looking he is not just one trick pony like Pandya who other banging it short has no other weapons in his repertoire. Have not seen him bat so can't comment.Bowling one odd ball @ 140 doesn't make Pandya 140 K bowler. Pandya is also a very big trundler and also  very limited bowler .Pandya the batsman is also very iffy so replacing Pandya should not be a problem. They need a proper batsmen who can bowl  same overs as Pandya.

This should be indian ODI team

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

Raina

MSD

Shankar

Pandya

Jadeja (or other spinning all rounder)

Bhuvi

Bumrah

Chahal

Batting till number 8. 6 bowling options without counting Raina. Shankar, Pandya, Jadeja, Raina can share 20-25 overs between them easily

Quietly impressed with him so far, built like a tank so I can’t wait to see him connect one big hit. His bowling is a lot better than I expected. Bowls consistently around 130 mark, has natural lines (Pandya struggles a bit here), bowls a heavy ball, aims to hit the seam and most importantly appears to have good control. Would have picked up a few more wickets this series but for poor fielding. I can also imagine him getting reverse swing in test cricket with his action. Definitely worth giving a longer a run to based on his bowling so far and given that batting supposed to be his stronger suit. Pandya needs to feel pressure for his place both in tests and ODIs, and given state of current batting in ODIs and lack of lower order explosive hitting, there is potentially space for both Pandya and Shankar in ODI lineup (on condition that Shankar’s batting is as good and explosive as people claim).

I agree fully, he should be persisted with will be a very good addition to the side.

then vijay shankar should not be considered as some one as a replacement to Hardik...i mean he is no competition as a bowler to hardik at least. he is more of a Kedar type of bowler ..just medium pace, may be I a jumping the gun and speaking too early but lets find it out in coming matches. he can be played as a 6th bowler and not as a 5th bowler.

he got a wicket of a 143K ball and created some chances in one match, sundar and raina messed up two easy catches and one he himself messed up after running quite a bit.

i would like to watch him for one or two matches, it seems he has the capability to bowl fast ( not like BINNY or rishi dhawan who are Sure Shot trundlers) and can IMprove and seems to have a GOOD BOUNCER, kinda accurate and one more point i have noticed is he tried to bowl at Good length or short of good length which is tuf length to BAT against  as its nor full and nor Short and from that length he some times gets the ball to bounce UP, some thing which some of the unplayable ISHANT balls come up once in a blue moon. if he can bowl at 143K once in an over and then maintain 133 to 140 K with good length and on and around off stump, he can create a name for himself.

he was huffing and puffing in a 4 over t20 and his Speed variations were also quite a bit , if they were intentional then its OK but if he is one who cannot sustain Pace then it is a BIG issue.

Shammi ,bumrah and Umesh have the capability to Sustain Pace and bowl 5 to 7 over fast spells between 135 to 147K and thats why they are international bowlers, even hardik has shown some capability to bowl quick though not consistently.

bhuvi does maintain line n length but he also drops his pace quite a bit.

BIg hate that I have with UNADKAT is that he should bowl 4 balls around 138 to 141K and bowl 2 Slow balls at what ever pace he feels like but what he does is he bowls one ball between 136 to 141K and rest 5 are slow balls , he is already becoming an open book and thats why he is getting hit badly...

i want him to bowl 2 Slow Balls and 4 fast medium balls between 137 to 141 which he is capable of doing.

Liked what I saw of him. Yet to see his batting.

Also the tactic of developing Mitchell marsh as a reverse swing specialist is a brilliant move by the Aussies.

Hope Pandya and Shankar become better at that. A workshop with zaheer or Wasim/Waqar  should help them

Shankar has really impressed, his variations are good and on target. Bowls according to situation, low key, does his job without doing anything OTT. I feel he'll be a better ODI player...can't wait to watch his batting.

Very impressed with Shankar bowling so far in the tournament. He looks a crafty bowler who knows his limitations.

He can bowl above 130k with control, in the channel, can surprise batsman with bouncer. Has shown some variety in his bowling & also can bowl yorkers.

He should be selected in all the formats.

He is calm and measured cricketer with a cool head.

He is also a captaincy material as he has been captain of Tamil Nadu

He was terrible but lets cut him some slack, its his first innings. Manish Pandey should take more blame.

Its pressure match but he should gotten bat on the ball. That was bad even a tailender these days get bat on ball. 4 dots on row is worse.

Horrible batting today. 1 run in. 5 balls in Fizz over when RR was 13plus. Could not even get bat on ball.

This is what may happen when one is forced to bat for the first time in international cricket in a final match and that too in the final few overs.

Rohit should have allowed both Shankar and Sunder to bat in some of the 4 league matches... to get them match ready in terms of batting.

LOL.  Bias leaking all over the place.  Shankar proved that he doesn't have it (yet) on either side of the ball.

He played a bad over to Mustafizur. Looked under pressure. I would just say that. T20s, lot of plaers have done the same thing, playing bad over.

Still it was horrible imo.  He batted worse than even a specialist bowler for so many balls in T20. It will be tough for any Indian player ( batsman or even specialist bowler) to bat badly than that. Not getting ball on  bat is unacceptable for so many balls. If it swings god knows what he will do.

He was confused. He wasn't connecting and so he should have focussed on connecting first and taking a single atleast. He let the pressure of the match situation on him. M Pandey at the other end wasn't of much help either.

Sure, Pandey is about 10x more guilty than Shankar in this game.  I would credit Pandey with getting Brohit out as well.

But bottomline is Shankar hasn't really impressed with either bat or ball in hand.  I've enjoyed his spirit and effort - that has stood out big time.  But the most you can say about his bowling or batting is that he's allright.   And thats being generous.  In a country like India, with the bench strength we have, its going to be hard for him to stay relevant, with the likes of Nagarkoti etc waiting to come up through the ranks.  And there will be others as well.

Manish Pandey is the one whose place needs to be questioned.

Pandey shouldn't be playing T20s in the 1st place.  He's not a guy who can deliver boundaries.  And his biggest problem is mental - he sees himself as a future batting star in the mirror, and wants badly to show it.  While putting himself under pressure, he's Hemang Badani-ing his way out of the Indian team.

Shankar is batsman who can bowl and not the other way around. Shankar can’t impress you until he can be given to bat consistently. Bowling is not his strength.

So wait for him to play at least 10-15 ODI’s and then you can judge him. And judge him based on his battinnt again. This t20 batting where he batted for the first time and had to throw his bat where he struggled aren’t the best way to decide careers.

Give him time.
