ICF hypes who turn/have turned out to be average in International cricket.

Recommended Posts

If someone fails in international cricket after doing well in domestic , then its not called hype or can’t be called hype as most deserve their chance to play for India then or have a run at international cricket whether thy fail or not.

If someone fails in international cricket a number of times but is still backed by group of fans but player continues to fail regularly in international cricket, that is called hype.

Ppl here tend to go overboard with praising players who perform in domestic for a small period of time..ask them to be fast tracked. Very quick to come to conclusions.

Just a few good Innings against U-19/A teams and they suggest that he the the best player and should immediately play for India. That is called hype.

Its called "Kuch naya Lao" syndrome.  Everybody has a reason to dislike their pet hated players in the team, and want to see somebody new in their place.

Its not an Indian thing - its a global sports thing.  In the NFL, its a celebrated saying that there is nobody more popular on a Football team, than the 2nd string quarterback who's on the bench.

I dont recall media comparing Hardik with Kapil. Some over here were comparing stats of Kapil with those of Hardik.  So not hyped before making debut but hyped after having played a good number of matches.

Have seen quite a few ICF threads on IPL stars only for them to fizzle out after 1 season..

In domestics, its mostly the bowlers like nathu singh, harmeet singh who are hyped

I see it as excitement, enthusiasm about a new player. Some of the players don't live up to the hype, so what? We are just fans, not full time selectors armed with resources and time to spot the best talent. Positive hype is any-day better than calling a budding cricketer useless. Should fans also go the uncle Ravi way and just talk about only experienced and well established  cricketers?

Start with Thakur...looks very average.

Aararaaaa...who thinks himself as an 'Ailaaa' cant do that..but here is the thing.

Thakur will play for CSK big problem for 'Ailaaas' now.

I dunno about ICF but Irfan Pathan was regularly compared with Kapil when he was at his peak.

The fitness of Kapil and Irfan was incomparable. Irfan missed lot of series and season due to injuries. Kapil has record for playing most number of tests without missing one.

sunil gavaskar rested kapil in one test to prevent him setting some record :p:

Kohli?

Until he proved him when the wind was blowing from south, flat tire, sun was 90 angle and score 100. Then only he is proven all tine great.

Sarcasm over.

He was hyped for pace and he disappoint in that department.

i can think of few starting with Badrinath, manoj tiwary, Saurabh Tiwary had a few good games in IPL and everyone wanted him in limited over setup just like ppl want krunal pandya in India team even though they havent done anything even at domestic level.

One of favorites Varun Aaron reason for keeping him out,  pace at which varun bowls will break Dhonis fingers so to extend his own career Dhoni is keeping varun out of team.

Few more VRV singh, Munaf patel (though for a brief period munaf was key member of our lineup)

jhadav hype was unreal on icf around 2014-15 ,he is a bang average player.

Thakur another one, also remember @saneindian who advocated for pankaj Singh like hell

He has highest SR in this ODI team. How is that average?

I don't go just by stats, even fakhar saman has atg stats atm, does it mean both are good players? Not for me. Kedar jhadav will be found out ,his average has already come down from 50 to 42

Pankaj Singh has to be one of the most hyped. Lots of Indian fans wanted him in test side.

he was a very good Ranji bowler. Certainly deserved his chance and if anything should have played more.

This goes back to Tics point that icfers wanting him in the side wasn't him being hyped but asking for him to be rewarded for excellent domestic performance. Doubt anyone here claimed he was going to be an all time great

ICF is know to hype young players who fall on their feet when exposed to international standards.

Name them.

LOL I had the idea of this exact same thread a few days ago after watching thakur and reading the badrinath threads from the past:giggle:

This definitely means he hasn't been average as claimed earlier.

He has done his work so far. How many batsmen avg 45 with SR of 115 at that position.

His batting doesn't inspire confidence much and it's isn't attractive either, but that doesn't make it average.

Pant to an extent yes...but he will get more chances.

Iyer has not been disappointing.

Pant has been disappointing but is not average. Iyer is average. But both haven't got enough chances to form a conclusive opinion.

Most of the time its the pace prospects  who get hyped or to put it better way  talked about excitedly.

Its because the parameter which is used . If some one bowls  a few deliveries above 142-144+  in a Tamasha match like IPL we go GAGA over him.

I think the best way to judge such pace prospacts is to see if :

1. He takes loads of wickets in domestic circuit .

2. Also gets wickets /troubles batsmen consistetetly on list A games .

Indeed a Ranji performer, but every Ranji performer cannot be given a game considering the international squad has 17 players at most and about the 7 of them are certain starters.

I didn't say anyone made claims that he would be ATG, however the reactions did give a feel that the selectors were keeping a star player on bench. Good that they played him and he himself solved the issue why he wasn't given chances.
