Karthik vs Saha

Recommended Posts

We compare KKD with everyone :) Why not this. I agree Saha is tad better consistency wise against pace bowlers. KKD is slightly older than Saha. What are the other things that separate Saha from KKD. We were forced to send Ashwin ahead of Saha due to Saha's average batting. KKD is not churning runs just in limited overs. Also in first class games, he has been consistent.  If India is going to have 5 seamers in England our batting depth will be woeful given that we still don't have a settled opening partner for M Vijay. KKD has already opened in England in Tests negotiating Sidebottom very well.  Is it a legitimate comparison?

No please...let us not have a mediocre tontee tontee tournament cloud our judgement.

Saha is already our greatest keeper bat in tests and his keeping alone is worth its weight in gold.

Saha and we need to act fast to groom a younger keeper.

Dk can play T20s and this innings should promote him for Odis that’s about it

IF anything DK is more of a test batsman than a 20/20 batsman.  But Saha's non contribution with bat will not allow India to stage comebacks in Tests. It is almost like go past Kohli, Rahane your next stop will be Bhuvaneswar. That's it.  KKD is not far off. He can take blinders. Tougher catches. He sure has messed up simpler ones. But he is no parthiv patel. Didn't we try PP out of depseration already. I have a feeling Saha has a short rope from here on.

What about keeping...I always think he has a concentration of a gold fish...don’t trust him as a test keeper.

Maybe as a pure bat, well where is the slot for him?

He can easily replace Rohit sharma :) But i want Rahul to replace him. In this day and age in Tests you cannot purely survive by keeping alone.  They were so desperate they dropped Saha. If Saha fails in couple of tests in England it will be curtains for him.

English conditions are far more challenging for a keeper..has DK ever kept in England?

Also with our pathetic slip catching last thing we want is a poor keeper...yeah he is marginally ahead of Pappu but that is no benchmark.

Actually Dinesh Karthik kept in England in a one dayer i think. In Tests he played as a specialist batsman. Dhoni was the keeper. Since his return as keeper he hasn't messed up anything has he?

It’s not his athletic ability or fitness or keeping technique that is the question, his ability to

concentrate for long periods of time.

Karthik can play as a batsman ahead of Rohit Sharma in Test Matches,  but not required at this time to replace Saha as a keeper.

I have been saying many times, if Vijay and Rahul fail regularly in England in first three games, Karthik can work as a back up opener too.

We should check ourselves a tad here. I know kdk won a t20 series with a b side against a rampaging cringe superheros from bd. But saha is a test wk and for that you need to be netter than him in wl keeping over 3 days.

But was Saha dropped or he actually picked up an injury in SA. He batted after Ashwin in both the tests he batted.  If Ashwin/Pandya/Saha are our 6,7,8 then that is a flimsy lower middle order. Any top order collapse could lead to 75 all out situation. He doesn't have to be a gilchrist. Atleast a boucher?

if Ind is 100-125 all out, instead of 75, would that be a competitive score or still considered as an overall batting failure for the team? Top 5 have to perform. One can’t select teams based on assuming failures of our best batsmen. Conversely, one can say, what if our top 4 bowlers don’t pick up any wkts. If that happens the 2-3 wkts that the 5th bowler takes would make little impact overall. The top bowlers as a bunch have to deliver

Not as simple as that. A small partnership between keeper will help lower order as well to bat better. 75 could become 350 if KKD can score a 100. Besides, do we have proof Karthik is just as loose as he was before he was discarded with keeping? I am looking for it. 4 or 5 years back he missed a couple of stumpings in 2 different ODIs.  I know for a fact Saha missed few stumpings as well. If we purely go by stumping there is not much a difference between them.  Dhoni is still king of stumpings.  Then comes the keeping for pacers. I don't deny Saha is more consistent behind the stumps. But has DK dropped any sitters oflate as a keeper?  I mean he is a gun fielder. It is not that hard for him to be a good keeper as well now that he is matured and not fidgety like before.

That is assuming that where other top batsmen have failed (if a top order collapse happens, conditions are likely to be tough for batting), Karthik (for some unknown reasons) and because of him the lower order too would do well. If Karthik is so good to succeed where others fail, he should be slotted in the the top 5

We can’t replace our best WK just because someone else can potentially bat better. Tomorrow, we could be like let’s play Vijay Shankar as the 3rd seamer over one of Bhuvi/Bumrah/Shami because he can bowl too but potentially bat much better than these guys

Karthik can come in purely as a batsman as he has that skill. He can be an option for one of the top 5 spots. But to remove a much better WK is not an option. If WK skills of Karthik and Saha are at a similar level, then Karthik can be considered for his batting

In Eng, Ind is likely to rely more on pacers
