Ball tampering: Peter Handscomb in Bengaluru Test then, Cameron Bancroft at Newlands now

Quote

The Australia camp referred the moment as a mere ‘brain fade’ when the young Peter Handscomb – 25 years of age back then, the same as Cameron Bancroftnow – took the blame for his Steve Smith’s DRS fiasco and said it was he who suggested that the skipper refer to the Australian dressing room after being adjudged lbw.

Handscomb then and Bancroft now, Australia, and more importantly Smith’s dependency on 25-year-olds to come to his aid during questionable moments says much about the pattern this Australian side has set for itself, a lot on the lines of ingraining a culture as early as possible in a cricketer’s career.

I feel he should get a lighter punishment. He was a newbie who was asked by the ' leaders' to do the dirty. Could he have refused without it effecting his chances.Give a larger share of the punishment to the kingpins.

The bowlers have not been touched .The coach  gets scotfree. He should get his punishment and then given a fair chance.

Bancroft will surely have a chance, but he might not be good enough to get a break after 1.5 or 2 yrs.

Smith and Warner will have a very difficult road ahead. Even if they start playing cricket after 1 yr, surely they will not be ready for international cricket for atleast 1.5 yrs or so and who knows how good/motivated they will be after that. Or even Australian team might have moved on from them and would have settled side after WC and they would not need them back. In any case, there ban will have big consequences and hence a little harsh. Warner might even retire from Internationals, he is 31 already.

Warner will more likely go for T20 tourneys around the world (like WI T20 stars) after he serves the ban. Smith is likely to come back to test cricket.

i am sure ban will be revoked by the court once he challenges it. it wont stand a chance in courts.

why people certain that will server the full ban? they still have the chance to appeal and because ball tampering is just a minor offense and not a crime unlike fixing, they will be back earlier than people are expecting.

BCCI have taken a decision to ban because that is what is effective now. So IPL governing body has banned both. Likewise  County season starts soon in two weeks. County will make decision based on the status and length of the ban as of now. Whatever is effective later will be considered afterwards. By that time these banned players will have missed IPL, international series, county and more during the tenure of their ban.

The reason being they are employees of Cricket Australia with a contract and I am sure they will have been disciplined under bringing the game under disrepute not ball tampering which will hold penalties within in that contract

They are in contract with CA. This ban by CA impacts their selection for next year. Whats so tough to understand regarding this.

this

poor guy was the fall guy. Its not like his personal stats were boosted due to this.

by all means punish him by banning for x number of test matches. But 9 months a bit too much

hope his county contract not rescinded.

Unbeleivable...If Amir can fix games and comeback on the “He was so naive” and He was “influenced” argument why can’t Bancroft? it will be totally unfair if this is the reason he doesn’t play again for Australia.

But Handscomb doesn't play for Pakistan.

Somerset under pressure to sack Cameron Bancroft

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2018/03/28/somerset-pressure-sack-cameron-bancroft/

Bancroft signed for Somerset in December after his call up by Australia for the Ashes series. Somerset signed him on the recommendation of their former player, Justin Langer, who is Bancroft’s coach at Western Australia but now the club is coming under pressure from its members to dump him.

You've been hammering on this issue like broken record without an ounce of knowledge about law or terms like crime, offense etc. Drop it.

If someone says that they would be proud if it was Indians that cheated like the Aussies did I think that tells us what his/ her views  and knowledge are on cricket, employment law , ICC laws
