India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has joined Jammu and Kashmir in the player-cum-mentor role ahead of the 2018-2019 domestic season.

Irfan, who started his domestic career at Baroda, was dropped from the side and axed as captain after two rounds of the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season. Baroda lost to Madhya Pradesh in the opening game while they conceded the first innings lead against Andhra, following which Irfan was replaced with Deepak Hooda in the leadership role. The senior all-rounder's numbers in the two games weren't impressive either, with just two wickets and 88 runs against his name before being shown the door.

In his 18-year association with Baroda, Irfan amassed 4096 runs with the bat in 113 games, inclusive of three centuries and 23 fifties. He also picked up 365 wickets, including 18 fifers and three 10-wicket match hauls.

Irfan's last international appearance for India was at the 2012 World T20 in Sri Lanka. He went unsold at the 2017 and 2018 IPL player auctions. His last appearance in IPL was for Gujarat Lions in 2017, coming in as replacement for West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

J&K finished fourth in Group B of the Ranji Trophy last season, losing four of their six matches.

Feel sad for Irfan. He could have been a genuine all rounder for us across all formats but Greg Chappel ruined him completely.

lets not blame chappell, pathan himself was responsible for his downfall

He started tinkering with his action even before chappell became coach. He started getting injured frequently and u have to realise that time was the time when our fast bowler lacked the knowledge of growth and their wasnt much of help so thats why many fell of radar. HE had the batting ability and gr8 technique and it cud have only been enhanced if he wud have batted up. And lets not forget his 1st promotion idea came from tendulkar in team meeting. Kumble made him open in australia in a test i dnt see anyone accusing him. Pathan bowling was felling off and it was his batting that was helping him save his place. The thing chappell did wrong with him was taking him everywhere for advice .

Chappel had been gone for 10 yrs now still he is nowhere, both brothers cudnt handle stardom. Now pathan bowls at 115k and chappel cant be blamed for that. In recent yrs he has lost his batting , bowling , fielding and chappell was gone long back
