A truly great talent, exquisite to watch. Him and Dada were great openers who never got their due respect. Anwar's square drive is a shot I would keep trying to imitate in front of the mirror as a kid, great memories.

I kind of miss old school ODI cricket, the pre T20/IPL era limited overs cricket. Then nobody had those fancy big hitting bats you had to have a good skill set to hit a four or a six (except Nathan Astle and some NZ players who used light graphite bats, but then those bats would do harm than good on low bounce subcontinental decks). Also rules against ball tampering and chucking were not very strict, so the bowlers had a wicket taking mindset unlike today it's all about being as economical as possible. The people who grew up in T20 generation with saturated six hitting of Rohit Sharma will probably never get to know the awesomeness of a Jayasuriya flick, Ganguly off drive or the rare moments when a six was a big moment in the game (not undermining Rohit here, he's a freak of a player).

90-2010

Tier1 - genius without flaws - srt lara

Tier2 - genius with flaws

Punter - spin in India

Dravid, kallis the batsman - batting speed

Sanga - lack of many dominating innings against greatest attacks

Sehwag - brain

Kp - ego

Abdv - heart

Tier 3 - brilliant batsman but not genius technique

VVS inzi Anwar Yusuf Younis markwaugh...

Lol comparing vvs and anwar. Laxman has 281, 170 in Australia and scored hundred and won test with tail, Durban test. There are many count less contributions. If Sachin is Rama you know who is Laxman.

You were brother. Not anymore. Please get your tenses right. Difficult to tamper the ball these days with so many cameras around.

Didn't Kohli massacre your so called great bowling after coming at score of zero and toyed with bowling power house  chased down 320 with ease.Indian batsmen have been toying with so called Power house in all important matches except one fluke match.

It's a one off knock. Even though that is the only knock I remember from Kohli so far. Apart from that one off knock, Kohli too struggle against our bowling. Then what to tell about other batsmen if best batsman struggles.:cantstop:

Kids born in 1996 have already grown up,completed graduation and some of them are probably even  married and have  kids but looks like Lala’s both the poster and the player just refuse to move forward from that “golden year” :cantstop:

Anwar On the other hand leave alone moving forward has moved a 1000 years back in time...looks and dresses like he belongs in a invaders court room in 1000 AD

that series was arranged like the T20 series with WI which Pakistan won 3-0, it was squeeezed in middle of a busy India season and you are still hung up on that, Pakistan was a better side for period in 1990s but still Indians never lost any important matches even then.

Your batting was always putrid but now your team now is putrid team.Don't overestimate your team India will beat 95 out 100 times your team anywhere in the world.Upsets can happen thats what happened last june and and also in 2012.

I would go so far as to say that in terms of talent, he was not far from Lara. Maybe more inconsistent. But boy, he was good. Just watching some of his old innings reminds of his greatness. His ability to manoeuver the ball. He could play all over the pitch. He was also Avery decent guy. A quiet honest cricketer.

He was not far from Lara?....you mean he had a house near him?

Please don't say you mean as batsmen !!!!
