Indian T20 team based on IPL 2018 performance !!!

Recommended Posts

International teams shudnt be picked entirely on IPL , specially one season

By that logic Kohli might find hard to get in the team and he is the best t20 batsman

Why it should not be the case? IPL is the criteria for T20 cricket.  Kohli is one of the highest run getters in IPL overall with close to 4000 runs. Still, I dont consider Kohli the best T20 batsman.  He does not hit enough sixes.  He had a great year two years back but has been up and down since then.  Kohli is the best T20 batsman of a very average T20 team that India is.

how many international player do we play in IPL

The conditons we play are just in India

In franchise ull get a position that might suit ur game, aint happening in national side.

Eg sanju samson - highly doubt he ll get a chance to bat in top 4 ,

rahul- their is no place in top 3 specially now dhawan has also come good

Raydu- have been gr8 in IPL, but when he ll have to play t20 on bouncy pitches will struggle. If he goes abroad he wnt even get so many spinners to feed on

Rohit has been the most consistent batsman in IPL ,he never had a bad season .......yet their was no consistency from him in Last 3 WCs

Rahane has done decent for his franchise over the year opening and in international - terrible

Look at the amount of trundlers that have done well in each season - sidharth trivedi, dhawal, munaf , unadkat, rajat bhatia

Look at ipl to find quality players who can do well in that format, just dont look at numbers .

He has been the best batsman in last 3 wcs , look at his consistency ...the avg is bradman like for t20s

Not enough sixes, how does that matter he scores runs .......

U are not going to get everything in one player- some will find consistency, some firepower .......at the end wat matters is who wins max number of games. Kohli wins his team max number of games in all condition.

He won u in Aus, then in Bang (asia cup), then single handedly took the team to semi in world cup

If he is not the best t20 batsman i dnt who is

Virat is the 7th highest run scorer ovrrall and 3rd highest run scorer if we consider only Indian batsmen.

M talking about this IPL which hasnt been that gr8 for virat and virat has had few off seasons in IPL, coz the tittle says from 2018 IPL.

Samson, raydu have done better this IPL but i wnt pick them over kohli

So what should be the criteria for T20? Ranji trophy? Everywhere in the world teams pick their T20 team based on their T20 tournaments. Most of those tournys dont have even as many foreigners as in the IPL. it does not matter whether IPL is India or overseas. Ranjio trophy is played in India too and we pick players for our National and A team based on Ranji trophy. There will always be variables.

Rahane never had a great IPL. He has been mediocre in IPL and same has panned out in T20Is for him.  Just scoring runs along is not enough, SR matters too.  he scores runs for India too but at low SR.

Regarding failures of batsmen like Rohit in T20 WC, we barely played T20Is before.  So our team has no strategy or planning how to go about things.  You suddenly go to play WC in a format you barely play as a team, has a disaster written all over it.  Rohit does not have a great success in IPL as an opener. He does well in middle order for MI, not opening.

Kohli may not be the best T20 batsman ... but he does average 50.85  with a SR of 137  in T20Is after 57 matches.  That is an incredible batting average and SR combo for T20s.

I always get the feeling that Kohli plays international matches with much more intensity and just has a good time in the IPL.  I feel that is the right approach too. His priorities are in the right place.

i shud pick raydu  ahead of kohli

Suryakumar yadav ahead of rohit sharma

Yes and you wont be wrong.  This is their current form.  Its T20 cricket. Here, you can pick any of the top run getters and can still be in good stead.

Kohli had a bumper 2016 in all forms that helped him do it.  Remember, he had hit 4 100s in IPL in 2016. But otherwise, i think Kohli has performed above his weight in T20s.  Though he is still our best T20 batsman, but our T20 team is average.

IPL will be used to replace non performer, not to replace whole team.

Virat and Rahul have amazing records in T20. Why should they be dropped. The best of this IPL should only replace the players past their best or non performing ones.

i am also talking about T20Is because most of those runs were scored in that period too, both in IPL and T20Is. T20 WC was in 2016 too and Aus 3-0 T20 series around that time too.

see.

Ranjio trophy is played in India too and we pick players for our National and A team based on Ranji trophy. There will always be variables.

Its international selection , shudnt be that easy ......their shud be a process

1. always choose quality over numbers- look for player whom u feel can do well at international level and for that selector shud ahev an eye for talent. If picking a team on numbers of was the case anyone can do that, selectors one quality shud be to have an eye for talent. So mark ur player whom u feel have quality for eg rahul , samson, gill seems to have the quality over someone like suryakumar, ambati, mandeep (in my opinion, but its subjective) Selectors may find the others more talented thats ok, buut 1st part is eye the right talent.

Also dnt be stubborn , if IPl throws a talent like Bumrah or pandya keep an eye on them

2. Look at ipl to judge them on different criteria

  • like how do they do under pressure
  • how are their t20 skills
  • what do they bring to a team
  • their fielding and fitness.
  • game awareness

If ur marked players dnt pass of these areas, then look at others

3. What is the teams needs- Most importantly does team need a player with skills sets. For eg samson is way ahead then pandya but ill pick pandya why coz team needs him. For samson i need to find is a place in top order which isnt their currently

U cant be have one note for selection- chalo beta tumne ipl men run maare aa jao international cricket men.

Rahane never had a great IPL. He has been mediocre in IPL and same has panned out in T20Is for him.  Just scoring runs along is not enough, SR matters too.  he scores runs for India too but at low SR.

He has made runs most IPL but with low s/r but when it comes to international cricket t20 his runs also dry up

That will always be the case, we ll have to work around that only.

Btw in 2016 BCCI made indian team a lot of t20 before WC , so 2016 Wc failure has no excuse other skill issue in tough conditons.

We played in Aus

the at home vs sri lanka

Asia cup

Then wC

he made runs in Aus only to come n struggle when it jagged around in asia cup n spun around in WC.

so that was not a T20 cricket then.  T20 cricket is what where you have to score big or chase big on flat pitches. We had to chase 80 on a green pitch against Pak.  That is not his strength. that was like a test pitch.  talk about proper T20 cricket.

that is because he does not have someone like Watson opening with him in International and had to take risk.  He mostly batted with Dhawan who himself used to be a poor t20 bat.  Rahane worked in IPL because he had Watson with him or last IPL, it was Tripathi for Pune.

he is one of the biggest match winners in t20 and he is overrated :phehe::phehe: coz his s/r is isnt 150 or he doesnt endup his innings with may be 10 sixes.

All this sixes, speed, s/r are secondary at the end of day , whats important is winning games and he wins u many .

If u say he looks best coz he plays for avg team like india, not his problem that others lack skill to do well in different. As i say in IPL u play in conditions u knw but international cricket will throw diff ones like it did in Asia cup and then at our home only.

Also i wud love to see raydu  against Rabadda , starc, cummins at no.3 in next wc which is to be held in Australia

Of btw i just remembered, ABDV has been gr8 in IPL how is his record in international t20 cricket.

Of btw i just remembered, ABDV has been gr8 in IPL how is his record in international t20 cricket.

Kohli's T20 bating turned since 2012-13.  He averaged 45 with SR of  138 in IPL 2013. 2012 T20WC was turning point for him.  Averaged 45 in 2015 IPL too, and then he got bumper 2016 with 81 average where he scored four 100s.  Kohli is playing T20s since 2008 and see how many years it took him to do something fours in 2012.  He has not become this overnight.  Playing international cricket for 10 years and you *ing want young players to start winning you games from 2nd-third game onwards.  what likes of pant, Iyer and Samson have done in IPL Kohli at the same age could not even dreamed of.  This is what my point it.

I never said Rayudu should be picked. every batsman have a golden touch when he can do nothing wrong. Kohli had that in 2016. Rayudu is doing now.  but whether his form will be like this 1 year down the line, no one is sure because he is not a proven cricketer like Kohli. Even if Kohli fails whole IPL, he will be played because he is proven and could get his form back.  Go by IPL does not mean you replace proven cricketers, you only replace players who have not been good.

No.    Kohli was one of the top batters in Asia Cup 2016  where the pitcher were green and the ball was seaming and swinging.

He scored  56*,  49  and  41*  in three of the four innings he played.  This includes the top innings of 49 against Pakistan with India in trouble.

LMAO RKT couldn't keep his inherent hate for for MSD hidden for a long time. The mask of neutrality is off. :hehe:

Great thread @velu :cheer:

how is that hate? Word hate does not exist in my dictionary.  Great for Dhoni that he is turning things around after what happened with RPSG.
